Default crawford plenum + stock strutbar with shims

is it possible to have the crawford plenum installed, WITH the stock strut bar using spacer shims under each bolt/stud for the strutbar? (the idea came from the way AAM spacer instructions mention you must put shims which they provide, in order to clear their design).

You could do this, but you'll also then need some sort of an aftermarket hood that could clear the raised strut bar

It might work but the plenum might be shaped a little different thus needing the crawford bar , might be tough. For 250.00 I think I will try the spacer , for the money everyone seems to be happy.

+1

That's why the AAM (ANGLED) spacer is such a GEM! AAM designed it to solve the problems below while adding significant HP. Now if they could only include all the bolts for a "perfect" install with no trips to the hardware store Not really complaining... because I basically made one trip with a parts list.

1. It's not a full re-cast plenum that forces you to buy a new strut bar or do with out.

2. It's not a 1/2" spacer which forces you to either raise your whole hood or eliminate the strut bar.

3. It's not a 1/4" spacer which doesn't provide the benifits as much as the others, but it does allow you to retain your strut bar...

$250 AAM is the BBB...

Default motordyne engineering hood spacer

if you already bought the plenum then you can do this. check my review thread for cooling benifits. IMO it makes the car look mean

Sorry raising the hood for a daily driver not wise here in the South we get a lot of rain. But good idea for the trackers. With the reduction in heat it has to add a little pep on the track days, 45-50 degrees cooler engine can give you an edge.

that solution imo, isnt a solution
1. makes the car kinda ugly , no offense man.

2. not a good idea -- crap can sneak its way in easier than before... not nice for canada if you drive in the winter

might as well buy a new hood imo.

I would try just placing the OEM strut bar over the locator studs on each strut tower and lower it down until it is resting on the plenum. Now try closing the hood. If you can close it, you have a 50/50 chance that you can shim it. You have to keep in mind that the engine is going to torque over during acceleration and will raise one side of the plenum slightly. This may cause a knocking noise if there is not enough room. Keep us posted.
