The need for backpressure is a myth.

Backpressure is not desired in any performance system, it is not required for proper sound control and not needed for torque development.

The post prior to my last one said that droning depends on what tranny and body type. So I posted what I had.

I am leaning towards the Borla exhaust but I won't get it if it drones.

30,000 miles on my Borla TD. Not welded. No leaks, no creaks. Great sound and pretty nice tq & hp gains. I don't know anything about the Nismo except I think it sounds closer to stock & not as much gains as Borla, which has been proven. Borla is much lighter than Nismo too. Get an intake with the money you save with Borla over the Nismo.

Does anyone have any good soundclips of the Nismo exhaust besides the ones on everything350z?

I took a ride in Bubble's roadster (Nismo intake, Borla exhaust and MD plenum spacer) and it did not drone, sounded pretty good actually. It seemed lower and softer, real nice.

According to the Exhaust shootout here are the specs

Nismo
Weight..........................................54 lbs
Tip Diameter ............ oval, 96 x 107mm
Piping Diameter .......................... 76mm
Sound Decibel at Idle ....................84db
Sound Decibel at 3K rpm ..............95db
Peak Horsepower .............................6.3
Peak Torque .....................................4.5

Borla
Weight..........................................52 lbs
Tip Diameter ............................. 105mm
Piping Diameter .......................... 60mm
Sound Decibel at Idle ....................88db
Sound Decibel at 3K rpm ..............92db
Peak Horsepower .............................8.2
Peak Torque ...................................2.72

As you can see, HP, TQ, and Wt. are all pretty darn close. The three decibels at 3k might be the difference for some between drone and no drone.

If you completely eliminate ALL backpressure, you will lose horsepower. Sorry, it's the truth.

You want to have as little backpressure as you can without losing horsepower. It's a game of balance. Too much.....BAD. Too little......BAD.

I hate to be blunt but your wrong. It's all about velocity not backpressure.

i got the nismo exhaust for 3 reasons: 1. its nismo lol 2. it doesnt void your warranty on the car and 3. its welded better than the borla. i know some people say they havent had leaks or cracks yet, but what if it happens later on? plus the nismo sounds like a beast also. the crazy thing about the nismo is that it hits 95dB at 3k rpm. i have mine coupled with dc headers and i think i make a lil more above 3k. lol the legal limit is 95 so the nismo is right up there on the limit.
