Default AAM Angled Spacer....HELP!! Advice needed

Fitted the spacer this afternoon.
No problems there.

Took car out for a short 5min drive, everything sounded fine.
Seemed to pull noticably better 3500+....nice

Got home and found the main 6bolts on top of plenum had come loose.
Tightened them up now I've got a very "boomy" low
down noise especially in 2nd gear that sounds pretty wrong.......
Any advice/ideas??

Thanks a lot in advance
George

Thanks ferret!

Everything seems sealed and tight.
Went for another run and the sound had disappeared!

All fine today until after 20mins driving the noise + feeling
started again!
All bolts tight, no sound of a leak.....
The sound seems to be coming from the very bottom of the car.
almost right under the engine while driving.

what conditions causes it?

Idle, WOT, shifting, what rpm? ANY and all details will help solve this.

Idle sits smoothly.
WOT is good(great actually!)

Seems to happen after short period driving, within 10-15minutes.
Always drive below 4000rpm for the first ten minutes so no
excessive hard right foot mashing is going on.

Noise is bad pulling off in 1st-all the way progressively through revs.
Low down in the revs in 2nd too.
Feels/sounds like it's coming from just in front of the firewall but right
at the bottom of the car.
Can also feel it through the gas pedal??!
Hope this helps.

Is this just to the warming up the OEM plenum and the spacer
since they are different materials with different heat capacities etc.
or something else entirely?

I'll give it a try.
Did wonder if it may (for some reason) help.
Thanks.

If it doesn't work I think it's time to go down the
Crawford/Kinetix road.......

Don't blame the spacer for a poor install. A poor install of a Crawford or Kinetix will take you down the same road. Check and recheck your work. The only way the spacer could be the cause of your issue would be strutbar clearance issues. Are you sure the engine isn't contacting the strut bar?

Steady!
I'm certainly not blaming the spacer!
I've checked and rechecked the gasket alignment of
lower manifold/spacer/upper manifold three times now.
Clearance is not an issue unfortunately.........
I understand anything installed badly(thanks for that assumption! )
isn't going to work and will cause problems/irregularities
I like that spacer, it's a beautiful piece.
I just feel more confident with replacing the entire plenum/manifold.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help you've all sent my way,
it's much appreciated!
Cheers
George

Def the strut bar. Raise it about a turn, drive it. Make sure you turn left and right and see if it still does it if. Keep raising it untill it stops. Just take note of your hood clearance.

Do you feel that the spacer was worth the cost for the power gain? Is it really that noticeable?

IT IS RUBBING YOUR STRUTBAR.

The same thing happened to me and i completely removed my engine cover and the two bolts that were rubbing it. Trust me thats what it is.

When you get on its hitting it and when you are decellerating from high rpms its hitting....take the cover off. It looks better anyway.

yup, engine movement is causing it to be intermittent. there is nothing else that can cause that kind of noise from simply applying a plenum mod. crank the strut bar adjustor higher, or use spacers under the mounting bolts.

Z BOY, sprazyo, jdifolco and king tut(sorry if I came off harsh)
You guys are absolutely right!!

That thing expands SO much once the engine has warmed up.
I'd left a lot more room between bar and plenum than there was
before install but obviously wasn't enough!
Thanks again, no noises, no vibration!
Cheers guys.

shortbus1981: Gains are definately noticable midrange+

Thanks to Dave at AAM for great service and fast international delivery!

I was the first one to suggest it, w00t w00t. It took me quite a while to get everything clearanced properly to allow me to use the OEM strut bar and my CF engine cover. I knew it was rubbing as soon as you said you could feel it in the pedal cause I could feel it in my pedal when the engine would hit the strut bar.
