Default Potential Header Hazards and Precautions?

I've heard some bits and pieces about issues with heat after an aftermarket header installation. The first one is the fuel line that is near the headers. Does the extra heat from the new headers really cause a potential for a fire? Another thing is heat in general in the engine bay after header installation. Will it be ok to install new headers without jethot coating? I don't want anything to melt under my engine! I'm doing my header installation this weekend, so I want to address any safety hazards before doing so. Anyone know of anything else I should look out for?

Yes! Heat wrap the fuel lines that are near the headers. I would also heat wrap or jethot coat the headers while your at it

crap, never knew about the fuel lines being an issue, I'll have to get to work on that soon then. That could be really really bad

+1

Wrap the hell out of the headers and nearby lines or find a local place that can coat the headers for you and prolong the install by a week or so. I'm glad I did the JETHOT 2k coating, because I will never mess around or do a header install on the Z again! I guess do it right the first time or wait until you can do it right.

JETHOT turnaround time is about 2 weeks on average.

Jethot 2k, D.E.I. makes sheaths that you can put over your lines, I installed them on my fuel feed lines. Only cost about $20 or so.

doesn't heat wrapping your headers destroy them after a couple years?

crawford headers come ceramic coated

Wrapping the headers will shorten their life. It keeps all the heat inside the wrap after shutdown, therefore longer durations for the metal at high temps. I do not know exactly how long they will last wrapped. I suggest Jethot coating the headers and wrapping anything and everything in the vicinity of the headers with wrap or heat sheaths.
