Default Borla TD initial impressions

I have not completely decided how I feel about it. It is not loud or annoying by any means (which is important). I like that it does not sound like every other late model vq35 (ie z33, g35, fx35, etc) vehicle that is out there. The car definitely sounds more aggressive, but I can hear a tad bit of rice way up in the RPM band. The guys at the shop said that you have to hear it outside of the car to get the full effect. They said it sounds like a "Ferrari" now.

Perhaps it is more impressive from outside. I need to get someone to drive it! Or my girlfriend to video record it.

There is no way to feel the difference in power. I know that it probably gained about 10hp, but really I cannot say that "the exhaust is so awesome it has so much more power!". I do have an Injen intake waiting to install. But today is gameday so it will have to wait!!

I will let it grow on me and try to get some impressions from outside of the car. I am not disappointed by any means, just currently am not going crazy. Perhaps resonated test pipes will help?

How is sounding like a Ferrari rice?

I didn't mean to imply that... I just said that is what the shop people said it sounded like.

I drove it again this morning for about an hour due to the lack of anything better to do except wait for noon kickoff, and I am liking it more and more. Downtown Charleston is an echo factory, and it was very nice to hear it reverberated back to me.

I stopped by a friend's house that doesn't understand why I spend money on this stuff and he even agreed it sounds good.

I have Borla TD with Stillen headers and I really like the sound. Inside the car the sound is great, but outside at rear is tough. I had a friend rev it up high and stood at the rear......WOW. Do it in a parking garage too.....sounds even better. ha ha

My impression....... I like it.

The first 3-4 days I had it I wasn't sure but somehow it grew on me. I never even turn on the radio anymore.

those will make it louder, raspier, and smellier, but some people like that.

LOL Ken350Z, I never turn on the radio either. I knew I wasn't the only one. I only turn it on if its a hot day and I have my AC on.

Add a jwt pop charger and TRUST ME you'll love that exhaust even more. Then you'll never listen to the radio! Plus you'll get a nice little kick (at least my A$$ dyno tells me i do)

Ya' add the POP charger!! That is the crowning jewel for this exhaust. I ran just those two until I got all the new mods a few weeks ago.
The resonated test pipes do make it louder for sure. I was afraid it was going to be too loud but reasoned that the Borla would still keep it at a somewhat tolerable level, and it did. Now it really sounds like a Ferrari! One of those early ones from the 50's or 60's I think. Ummm, sort of like the one in "Ferris Beulers Day Off", badass!!! On the downside the H pipe is now making more noise than it did before, I gotta do something drastic about that.

I have a before and after Dynojet graph from when I put in Borla, Pop was already there.

stop by the shop sometime and you can hear what a really loud exhaust sounds like on our project car - it should give you more appreciation for the TD setup

Two months now with the TD borla and it is still porno. I can't wait to install headers and high-flow cats. I wanted an exhaust that wasn't so load because i knew the new headers and high-flow cats would make it even louder.

I got a friend to drive the car away from me, do a fly by, and do a slow cruise by. Let me tell ya, Borla = porno. I can't wait to complete my exhaust system.

With the headers and cat's it should be just about right for you, you'll love it more, ohhh ya. But I'm tellin's yah, I'm loving the resonated test pipes for what they are adding to the Borla sound. Why is there a radio in my Z? For cryin' out loud can anyone tell me why they put that ding dang stereo in this thing?

ZlleH, I wonder if your H pipe is going to be noisy like mine, though. You'll hate that if it does. It sounds like an exhaust leak to me but it isn't. I'm thinking i have to modify the section with the cross over pipe to eliminate it.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't heard any rattles at all. And for leaks. I don't think I have leaks, but then again, I don't know what a leak sounds like.

The way the Borla sections is banged together and then a clamp is put over the sections, I just don't know how it can leak.

As for the H-Pipe... I don't know what to tell you. We will see after I put on the headers and high-flow cats. Megan headers are being shipped to me right now and I am trying to decide which high-flow cats I should go with... Random tehcnology high-flow cats are going for $310... I just haven't heard a good or bad review about them.

random tech cats are crap... I have heard many cases of them imploding...

Kinetix, and Helix are great, crawfords are the best.

I have the Borla TD and JWT Popcharger and it sounds soooo good, I'm affraid of doing anything else to my car in fear of changing the exhaust note. Love the deep, low end sounds of it. Under load, at low RPM, the car literally GROWLS!!!!!

I've noticed a nice "sound handoff" in the mid-RPM. Down low the Borla growls then my CAI takes over and screams til redline.

From in the car the Borla isn't loud at all. A little deep <2k RPM but after that it's fairly quiet IMO.
