Hypothetically no. You'd gain horsepower, but lose some low end torque. I have test pipes on mine and I notice a tiny bit less torque down low but the acceleration and RPM gain is very linear, instead of choppy like it was before.

Why would replacing the catalytic converters with test pipes result in a loss of horsepower?

Sometimes reduction in restriction can cause the whole system (intake, engine, exhaust) to work less effectively together and that can cause a loss of horsepower. You have to have some restriction or it wouldn't function properly. At least I think so, .

couden't have said it better myself. but the APS is designed for turbo/supercharged cars. i was thinking if im not pushing enough power i would lose some back presure.

Also if u have an 05 you'll get a CEL with test pipes. I even put the spark plug defoulers on and it came on within a day. Am I missing something to get the CEL to go away. I have the Helix test pipes with one set of defoulers installed.

Take that write-up with a grain of salt. For every "factual" article like this, I have seen a couple of others that contradict it. I'm not saying any part or all of it is wrong, however I will not believe anything these days without substantiating evidence. There's just too much misinformation floating around.

I stacked two non-foulers on a different car, where the second O2 sensor is used to gage the effectiveness of the cat, just as in the 350Z. I was able to put off the CEL for a while, but eventually, it came in. What code did you throw? If it's the one applicable to the cats, then stacking two of them will definitely reduce the frequency of CELs, and may eliminate them, although I doubt it.

Not sure what code I didnt run it I had a shop put them on cause they have to be drilled out to 1/2" and the day I needed it done I was dropping the car off to get the rear end fixed. I heard of stackin them but I've kinda given up unless there's an o2 sim cause I've spent money trying to fix it and it comes back and if the stackin method gives me one week as opposed to one day without a CEL than thats not worth it either, but thanks for the info cause I do remember hearin about the stackin thing.

Get the code, then figure out what you need to do. Stacking them is really easy because you don't need to drill out the bottom one. It takes only of few minutes to install. You will probably get several hundred miles, or more, or you may never get a CEL; it's just hard to predict. Simulators are a PITA too, especially if you get one that doesn't work or is installed incorrectly.

Alright...i installed them and i love them, although i just got my CEL on. Im not sure if its becuase of the test pipes or my instalation.........i sounds like i did not install them tightly(there is a buzzing sound, i belive the brace is not on tightly) anyhow.....how can i get the CEL to go away? and if i can't what test-pipe can i get to keep the CEL off. I am worried if something goes wrong with my engine i wont konw becuase my CEL is already on.

u need the spark plug defoulers....they work....i only have one set but if i had 2 i know the light would prolly never come on....cause my light goes off for a couple weeks then comes on for a few....goes back and forth by itself....test pipes make that sound so you wont get rid of the hiss or buzz that comes with havin test pipes...
