another way to look at it, is to convert it back to flywheel hp. say you have a car rated at 300flywheel hp. you put it on a dyno and it reads 100whp. Add a mod, and you get 110hp. The mod added 30flywheel hp. That's like the difference b/w a Z and an m3. Now, say you are testing mod #2 on dyno #2 on the same car. Dyno #2 says the car makes 300hp (a 1 to 1 whp to flywheel ratio - its unrealistic, but it makes the math easier). Now you add mod #2, and it reads 310hp. Well that's only 10 flywheel hp too then, not much of a difference.
the point is - 10hp on a dyno that shows really low numbers, like say a mustang dyno, is a lot better gain than 10hp on a dyno that shows really high numbers, like say a dynapack. You can't just use subtraction and say the gains are the same, because it takes a much bigger increase in real power to show the same increase on a lower reading dyno.
