Default New Custom Exhaust Complete! PICS!

The photos (before and after) start here)

About 3 photos down on this page

Ever wonder the the bottom of your Z looked like? Well here it is!

Pre Muffler Resonator removed and replaced with straight through pipe. 5 Chamber *brick* replaced with much smaller and nicer looking 3 chamber street series.

Stock tips rerouted slightly because retaining them was a MUST! They are butter!

Sound? Fanastic! Zero Drone or resonation unless I WOT. Growls at high rpm's but not a fart can sound.

It's the sound of fear as I blew by a Camaro on the way home. I need to get this setup to a Dyno before I do the ECU and CAI!

I'm out of here I need to go for a ride!

I launched so hard I got sideways leaving the shop when they finished!! I had TCS off!

Ok, do you think you gained power above 3000 and is it revving faster? And I'm guessing you didn't try to fit a custom Y-pipe? You need to get us some sound files

Default Chamber?

What is a chamber? And what is the benefit of changing the stock one out for a 'street' one?

Thanks for your replys and Happy Holidays!

I would be happy to get a sound file. I can do that with my Olypmpus C2040 Zoom right?

Yes it was yesterdau or this morning that I mentioned it would be *very soon*, FireHouse Mufflers for the locals, highly recommend they specialize in race and pro cars and are a Tognoti rep.

4 lifts no lines this time of year either.

We didn't mess with the Y-Pipe yet, wanted to see how gains are. I won't get to arear wheel Dyno (60 bucks for 3 runs) until January do to funds. I will go to Hot Rod Heaven theirs is accurate. The stock Y-Pipe had allot of Heat shield and some very nice braided steal on both sides that was a real nice touch. The owner suggested leaving it as is until the Dyno but it looked pretty efficient. Headers would be a better mod if they make them.

It added at least 10 HP I can tell, I have been down this road before on other cars.

As for chambers they restrict the exhaust to make it quieter, the less chambers the less back pressure, the stock one had 5 and a big ugly heat sheild which you will notice is gone, it looks so much smoother now. I am not done by any means just getting started! I am out of funds for a few checks. Got to buy others some stuff this month ya know!

I will gladly take some tips on hoy to upload some movie type sounds. It may have to be in Aplle Format and I may need FTP space? No expert on this.

Thanks for the support!

Thumbs up Yep Yep

Good eye Mr. Expert. It's a "Street Series" Flow Master, bang for the buck cheap! Lasts a lifetime.

This application is common on LS1 F-Bods actually!

Default Try to edit but it has a 90 min limit error

Anyway here is a good pic of the chambers and how they divert exhaust (for the person asking questions about chambers.

Pic of 80 Series

And here is a good honest and accurate right up on it

Flow Master review

And he has some sound clips here from a 3.8 liter 200HP V6

If you don't mind telling... how much did the exhaust work cost? Are you dyno'ing the car soon? It be interesting to see the results.

Rut ROW! EricH and I have been down this road before. Most 4 and 6cyl cars thrive on a certain amount of back pressure. Decreasing back pressure often allows for a loss in low end power. Im not super familiar with the adverse effects on the 3.5L but Im sure its similar.

Good luck, I hope it works out. Keep us posted.

I can guarantee there wasn't an extreme loss in low end, I um... tested it all day. Never opened it up on the highway yet though, too busy on the highway yesterday (weekend day)

Aright mad max

So what u did was , remove the premuffler and get it wellded, u got a 3 chamber instead of 5,(flowmaster , what model??) and had that welded?
is that all you did? or am i missing something?

so it proved to be beneficial?

im likin the idea

if u dont mind me asking

how much did it cost u?

so with all that work done u say ur experiancing a 10 hp gain with ur butt dyno?

i dont know any place in chicago that i can trust. in doing a good job and not rippin me off.
and what model was that flow master u put in(3 chamber)?

Default Hi

The muffler is Flow Master 80 series like the one used for LS1 F-Bods, a little bit smaller but fits perfectly.

To retain the stock tips a tad bit of rerouting must be done which makes them stick out about 1 inch further but they remain centered. Otherwise they will be offset.

Total cost including muffler was 200 bucks.

The sound is great!

I will post a base line Dyno soon (when I recover from Christmas it's 60 bucks for 3 runs) to see where I am at.

Edit add 80 Series **Street**, not Delta Flow.
Now that my wife found out when I started it and she heard the difference (busted) I will get a couple mpg's (or whatever my camera makes) of one idling and one driving away and will need a host spot.

If anyone has broadband I will email them to you or better upload them to your ftp site when I get the info I need from you.

On my Z32 I was running 60-series Deltaflow.... those were great. Very deep sounding and VERY loud. Is the 80-series very deep?

Thanks
