JWT POP Charger

I actually did the exact opposite of what all_bark did. After riding around for a week with my Injen as a CAI I moved the filter into the engine bay and made it a short ram. The risk of a small pebble hitting the filter @ 100+mph speeds and creating a small hole was too great for me. Of course I would never know it until it was time to clean/re oil it and by then my engine would’ve breathed all kinda junk in. I rode around for about a week with filter in the engine bay and it would get hot to the touch. I then ordered the JWT heat shield and it works perfectly. No matter how long I've been driving, even in stop and go traffic the filter never gets hot. I did run my car in the 1/4 with both setups and there was virtually no difference in my times or MPH. This proves to me that there is no loss in performance of short ram over the CAI when used with a decent heat shield. I'm happy with it and I don't have to worry about the filter being pummeled with rode debris and water.

Intresting. Did you run your car 1/4 mile stock? If so what were the gains after you installed the Intake?

How can that thing possibly do much better than the stock box? The stock box is enclosed and pulls ambient air from in front of the bumper. This conical filter will grab warm air from inside the engine bay with a little bit of ambient air from the stock inlet opening. I can't possibly believe it would flow cooler air than stock. The stock box is pretty unrestrictive and seems to work very well. I can see a CAI reaching around the radiator possibly providing a performance increase, but not just throwing on a conical open filter inside the engine bay.
Some people on this board have tired the K&N drop-in and found it to produce a performance loss. I thought that was very interesting...

I haven't looked at a pic of the Schuitemaker car in a while but the other one Performance/Unitech car is sponsored by Injen, you can see it on the front corners of the car. So I'd be inclined to think they'd use an Injen intake. I don't know that they'd do a comparo with other brands, they'll use who sponsors them. Just letting you know that sponsorship may play a role in some of the racing decisions. But if they say it improved their times then I'm sure it works just fine as well.

Its also not just the shape of the velocity stack, its the location of the opening from the filter and what kind of air its breathing, as I thought I alluded to...
I installed the Popcharger on My 350Z this weekend and think it's well worth the $100 I spent for it. The exhaust and intake sounds MUCH louder and meaner at full throttle especially as the revs climb. The Z actually roars as the engine closes in on the redline. The sound makes the experience of driving the car much more exciting too. Oh, and I can believe there's 6.5 more horses with the intake; when I wind-out in 1st gear the momentum is carrying the car closer to 40mph now.
Next weekend I’ll be installing my Crawford plenum (I’ve had it for 3 months now). Shortly thereafter, I’ll be taking the Z to have the APEXi S-AFCII installed and dyno-tuned. I’ll post my results.

I was planning to get the pop charger as well, but once I saw how heavy the JWT pop charger is, then I decided to go with something else!
That thing feels like it weight 25 pounds or somthing!!! I find a shop that could order a custom short ram piping, and I added on the Blitz filter on it. It works great!! I did get the JWT heat shield, it does help a lot on the temperature.

Just wondering what the weather is like where you are at. I thought about the popcharger, but previous k&n fipk that i have had suffered so bad with warm weather.

If you're concerned about heat, I think the shield helps to keep it directly away from the filter. And once the car is moving it's not an issue. I was actually surprised how hot the stock airbox gets on the side near the engine. But I'm convinced the Popcharger performs better than the stock air box in my Z.

So the top of the cone is a wire mesh?? ok, so air still going in thru the top, but not filtering any dust, hmmmmm. May for the drag strip, but mine is a daily driver. I'll take my functioning bath sponge over the screen door any day.
Man! That is some ducktaping job there! That looks awesome man!! Definitely one of the kind, hey whatever works right?

Well, as far for the dust, I'm not really too concern, since I don't leave in the desert, and I usually just drive to work and back. and It has multi-layer mesh in the front. So, it is actually pretty tight for dust to go thru. But I might change the filter later on, since it is so push tight again the port.

I think the box itself is very efficient at keeping engine temp. from reaching the intake. Taping the box is a little extreme to me. The tube however can use a little more insulation.
At first I had just the tube done but I had some heat shield left over. Ever feel how hot that box can get on the radiator side?? No sense in trying to insulate the tube if its still sucking air from a toaster oven. So I used the leftovers on the hot part of the box.
