I clean every 3K miles, or if its fading, I use K&N recharger kit though, I actually like the red better, its not bright, its not purple, its like wine. If yours is grey, clean and oil it! Go get a recharger kit at your auto parts store, it comes with instructions and cleaner, good luck!

after you reoil the filter, do you put the filter right back on the car or you wait for several hours?

I waited overnight to make sure it dried well, I've heard too many horror storries about dead MAF sensors, I'm not taking any chances.

I stick my intake filter on the end of a leaf blower. It dries in about 5 minutes.

I wait 12 hours before I put the pop charger back on after I oil it. That way I can see if there is any excess oil build up before I put it back on. I like to be extra careful.

Use the K&N cleaning kit, let it sit, then hose it from the inside out. Let it dry in the sun, then reoil and let sit overnight. Rather than use the spray, I like the liquid that you apply to each pleat.

I clean mine until its grey almost, I do an initial spray inside/ out, shake, then apply alot of the cleaner, let sit for a half hour, spray inside/out again really good, then use spray oil all the way around, my popcharger is completley red now, there is no blue hints what so ever, did you just use K&N for the first time lowrider, I still see blue....anyways, I put it in the sun for about 2 hours, and if there is excess oil after that, I take a shop towel and just tap the outside until the spots are gone, if it doesnt dry in two hours in the sun, then there is probably too much oil, lol...I guess I am lucky I havent gotten a dead MAF yet, sometimes I'm in a hurry and throw it on slightly damp!

That's not blue you're seeing, it just shadows. There was no blue left on it when I applied the K&N oil. I took great pains not to overoil.

BTW, I would never spray from the outside in. The dirt that the filter traps is on the outside of the filter, and you want to get it out. If you spray from the outside in you will just force that dirt deeper into the filter.
