Default changing exhaust sound

hey guys. i have a greddy evo2 exhaust on my Z.. i love it and all, but it just seems to be too quiet for me. i want it to be louder without changing out the cat converters. what im planning on doing is changing the mid-section mufflers. im going to either make them straight through pipes or put smaller resinators on it. i want my exhaust to sound deeper and throatier... for those that have seen 2 fast 2 furious, i want it to sound like the skyline that paul walker drives... cheesy i know, but it sounds damn sweeet. how will changing the length and volume of the resinators change the sound of the exhaust? THANK YOU for anybody that can help me without flaming me

I am no expert on the acoustics of the exhaust piping..
However, according to what i know from fluid mechanics and flow dynamics..
if you want to change the sound of the flow (i.e. making it sounds deeper)
you might wanna use shorter resonator (assuming you are going to use straight through type resonator)..Yet, you still have to play around with the exact location of the resonator since the location of the muffler will almost have significant impact to what level of noise you will absorb the most and also the effect of droning (because of resonance)

Your best bet might be studying various type of exhausts and see what size, length, location of the centre muffler (resonator) they have to decide what kind of sound do you like the most.

Hope this helps,
Godmans

I would try installing a glasspack in the location you're speaking of.

I would just remove the resonator all together.

I have the EVO2 and would not recommend removing any of the mufflers. They were chosen from Greddy to help with the tone of the exhaust. Two weeks ago I installed Crawford HFS and it made the exhaust sound alittle deeper and louder. It sounds excellent. Exotic and deep. I wouls recommend trying that.

By the way, how long have you had the exhaust on. I noticed that after about 800 - 1000 miles the exhaust sounded much more open.

Good luck.

ive had it for about 2000 miles... i would like to get HFCs, but i dont wanna end up taking them on and off for smog checks... also i heard fitment wasnt too great on kinetix or crawford or helix hfcs. i wouldnt wanna get into a crapload of trouble with the po po, so test pipes are totally out of the question.

Actually, the Crawford HFC fit fine. I had a hitting issue on initial install, but the fix was to loosen all the bolts for the exhaust and raise the exhaust while tightening the exhaust bolts from front to back. They sound awesome and the gains can be felt. I did not get a CEL and I believe they will pass the emissions test. Try talking to Doug at Crawfordzcar.com. He is the best for customer service.

Ive been thinking of changing the sound and flow of the Stillen dual . Taking out the big mufflers they use , for two Spintech mufflers . Check them out www.spintechmufflers.com

Scared me for a sec... i thought spitech mufflers were the ones that have the little fan thing at the tips
rofl...

imo
back on topic
sell ur evo2 and buy another one
if u want loud go Top Speed Pro-1 I heard that thing is monstrous
Tanabe Racing Medallion is also good choice
Maybe NISMO?
Just a couple suggestions...
Cut off center muffler is just going to create lame rasp
and make ur system unresellable in the future.

I've never heard of a Civic with a glasspack but I guess there's a 1st for everything. Keep in mind that a Civic is gonna sound like a souped-up lawnmower no matter what type of exhaust it's running.

They look like resonated test pipes but they're packed with fiberglass to lower the decibel level. At the same time, they generally lower the tone of your exhaust note.

They are popular with the domestic muscle crowd but they are also used by 12 second MR2 turbos and Supra turbos here in Southern California to keep the cops away.

And they're cheap.
