Rasp noise once I get pass 2300 rpm???
Hi, I recently installed some kinetix hi flow cat and y pipe on my g35 and I hear a rasp sound coming out of the exhaust when I pass 2300rpm. I was wondering if the sound will get back to normal once it's broken in? I heard of test pipes making the rasp noise but will the cats do that too?

its probably not your cats thats making the rasp...more than likely it is your new y-pipe...if so it will always be raspy and will not mellow or get broken in...your ears might get used to it tho

i have Crawford test pipes with JIC Ti single exhaust, rasp is there and i actually like it as well. problem is that there is no way to drive it soft, it's loud all the time. oh well, it makes me drive slower on the street/highway so that's a plus. can't wait to take her out to streets of willow*

are you going to get rasp as soon as you use a better flowing Y-pipe?
I am putting in a new Fuji Y-pipe on the car soon. It have Tomei Headers, Stock CAT, and Veilside Titaninium Exhaust right now. Right now it is very nice, but a bit too quiet....
I just hope the new Fuji don't add any Rasp....

i have the nismo exhaust and helix test pipes. not much rasp but I keep getting an exhaust leak and the rasp gets louder and louder from it. Check to make sure you don't have one.

The rasp is soo annoying. Is the rasp caused by the vibration of the cat moving around when I floor it? The rasp isn't there if I drive slowly and it's puzzling me.
I noticed that the kinetix cat doesnt have the extra hanger like the crawford cats and I'm thinking it's moving around causing the rasp. Also, I dont have the heat shield on the cats so can that be causing the rasp?
Can someone describe wat the rasp sounds like bc I want to make sure if this is the same noise I'm hearing.

I installed headers on my Z and if im in sixth gear and ease past 2000 rpm i get a little vibration(not rasp). I headr of someone saying something like you need to install spacers somewhere in the echaust system to get rid of vibration.
Still cant find the post.

It's the Ypipe causing the rattlesnake like rasp. It seems like it's just the way the air flows through that ypipe.
Once you get a louder exhaust, the noise just gets amplified, but the racecar like scream after 4k rpm is unreal. Worth the sacrifice of a little rasp in my opinion.
Also, my rasp mellows down after my car warms up.
