Hey guys I started another thread because I wanted all to read this, this information is second hand so don't quote me but you can call Jim Wolf Tech to verify.

I was discussing the stalling issue with a friend of mine who owns a 90 300ZXTT which is pretty modified running 11.5 1/4 mile times so far anyway, and he hangs around a bunch of other Z guys from southern cal anyway he has and most of his friends have popchargers he personally ran into this exact same problem almost 3 years ago and the guy who actually tuned his Z told him to put a piece of duct tape vertically on the bottom of the popcharger. The popcharger flows so smooth that it does not create enough turbulence and causes the MAF and ECU to read something goofy and shuts the car off. He called Jim Wolf and talked to someone named Ben I believe and verified the duct tape trick, and yes it is ghetto but it works and solves this issue it seems worth trying. You place the tape on the underside of the filter of the popcharger? This can't be for real. Why wouldn't Jim Wolf modify the design if that were the case?

 

I have heard of the stalling in past forum reports... Try searching

 

KPISKIN, all I can tell you is call Jim Wolf and explain to them what is going on with the car and tell them you heard of this duct tape thing see what they say.

Yes the tape goes on the underside of the filter when installed.

I like my solution better...don't drop the car into neutral at highways speeds.

 

I read the posts on tt.net, just seems strange that would work. I don't have the pop charger yet. It's in the mail.

 

I'd like to buy one but reading these threads kinda worries me. I had a Ingen CAI on my last ride and never had a issue with it. But this pop port thing intriges me and makes me want to go that route.

How many of you feel its better than the CAI? How many of you can see/feel a noticable difference? And lastly how many of you have engine stalls?

 

I've only had mine on for four days, and no stalls so far. I noticed there is a metal strip that runs the length of the cone filter. There has been no mention of this in the forum or in the install manual. I wonder if this is normal or if they made a modification to the intake. I would take a picture of it, but I'm not taking it off and I installed the filter with the metal strip down. Maybe this is a more professional solution to the duct tape thing.

 

guys, the stalls were only happening to a few people while the engine was under a very high load (~120mph & near redline)... out of all the people who own a popcharger, 99.9% have never experienced this anomaly. it's NOT an issue if you don't throw your car in neutral under these conditions.

the metal strip must be a new thing though...my popcharger doesn't have one...looks like jwt acted on everyone's feedback pretty quickly.

 

Well I will take your word on this! I think I am gonna order it and then later get the Nismo Cat Back Exhaust. Everyone around here says that it sounds really good.

 

I think that metal strip along the length of the filter is supposed to mitigate the stalling issue. Is someone local to JWT who could ask the question? I guess I could call.

im about to order it...and i had last minute questions so i called them, they said it only happens in manual when ur going about 100mph and u press on the cluth and put it in neutral
so jus dont do that and ull be good

 

Just installed the popcharger a couple weeks ago.. I have the same problem of stalling out when dropping in neutral at high speeds. I have the same metal strip on the cone, so I dont think thats a fix for this. Maybe it has to do with the idle? Since i installed the popcharger, i noticed i idle around 500, and i think it should be around 700-750?
