installed them about a month and a half back....now im goin through 5 qts every 3000 miles? wtf? how could they cause it? i know i installed them right.....lol...no smoke...just the smell of oil and exhaust....called the dealership and all he said was...we will do a consumtion test...that takes to damn long...any ideas?
5 qts every 3k?! That means you burn it all off. Sounds like you might have an oil leak or some other type of problem, that simply doesn't happen. Do you drive a lot harder since you installed the test pipes?

nope....just as hard as i always have....its very annoying....i just want a car that doesnt screw up on me!! my spec v had 3 motors and 2 tranny's....just my damn luck
There are a few things you need to check.
1. Leaks, if you are leaking oil then you will lose oil
2. Do a compression test to find out if your rings are okay,
if they arent okay then you need a rebuild.
3. Are you forced induction? Sometimes getting a oil catch can will help.
4. What weight oil do you use? Use a heavier weight oil like 10W40

Let them do a consumption test, put back some kind of cats so they don't blame them. When they do the test they should seal your dip stick and have you bring it back every 1k to check it. If the motor blows during this your covered but make sure you get that in wrting first.

trolling to find out about the oil consumption on the 3.5's. I own a 2003 Maxima SE w/ racing cats, Injen intake, timing advance, and a few other performance mods. I'm at 145k miles and I go through a quart every gas fill-up. I'm tearing down and rebuilding the engine in another two to three months and was wondering if anyone here has found the solution in the Z's (same motor should mean same problems).
I've seen this many times also. On a friend/customers car, she was losing about 4qt every 3500 miles. Definately a problem. She took it to the dealer, they told her some BS about the test pipes causing it.
That is a LIE. The test pipes have NO effect whatsoever on oil consumption.
I have had test pipes on my car for like 15k miles. And I had no problems, but recently, like a month ago. I changed my oil and I was VERY low. Both my car and my friends car are fairly stock, just bolt ons. She has about the same mileage I do (30k), but she's had this problem a lot longer than I have.
I don't think its an outside oil leak, or you would see it(i.e. valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, etc.) I think its internal. It does not in any way effect performance, the car doesn't overheat and when we did our coolant flush at 30k, it was clean. Which makes me not suspect the head gasket. That leaves me thinking its the valve seals.
If so many of us are having problems, maybe its something bigger than we think....

A catch can won't solve anything. 3-4+qts of blow by would cause major problems. Anyhow, the intake is clean, don't think its the rings. Either way, whatever it is, it should not be going bad this quickly. Its a warrenty problem.
