Default Dealer CPU reflash?

My local Nissan Dealer is pretty cool about my warranty with my mods. Next week I'm putting on kinetix highflow cats and alphawerks headers. The service guy said he could reflash my cpu for all of the extra air for $85. What do you guys think about this. They've always taken care of me there.

A ECU flash for $85 is OK.

A potential problem may be that you have no dyno to see if the mods improved performance, and if the flash improved performance.

that sounds kinda suspect. make sure its an actual reflash and he's not just resetting your ECU.

He's lying. The dealer has no access to the Qa table or anything else tuning related on the ECU other then being able to advance the base timing +/- 3 degrees and potentially bumping the idle if the car is an early 04 or older. I guess he COULD mean resetting the idle air learn which might smooth the idle a bit but get you ZERO performance increase. I've used the Consult II plenty of times to know that unless they have a stored map that was tuned for that specific mod setup they are lying...

He said he could program in new codes to adjust the air/fuel ratio. I don't think he's lying though. Maybe we're just not on the same page.

I'm going to say this once more. If he is using the Consult II which is the dealership computer to connect to the ECU he CANNOT ALTER THE TIMING AND FUEL MAPS OTHER THEN ADVANCING OR RETARDING THE BASE TIMING VALUE BY 3 DEGREES. That is it. I have personally used the system he is using and I assure you if it was that easy I would borrow one from Mossy and go down to a dyno and custom tune my turbo Z every freaking week. Unless his dealership purchased the Tectom hardware from Tectom Japan that allows them to fully customize the ECU he is lying. Very simply ask him if you throw in some 750 cc injectors is he able to scale them? If he says no then everything else he has said is crap. If you want to spend $85 to have someone do nothing but alter base timing be my guest. You can just give me the $85 I'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it even. Don't believe me? Make a post in the F/I forum asking this question. I won't respond at all and see what everybody replies. Including people like AAM who actually have the Tectom hardware and CAN retune an ECU.

He's either lying or mistaken - I called a few infiniti/nissan dealerships before to find out if they could reprogram my ECU and basically confirmed what MIAPLAYA said - there are only a few places in north america where that can be done.

You're probably right, thats why I started this thread. It seemed kind weird to me. I'll send you the $85 via pay pal and you can kick me in the nuts.
