Default Y-PIPE Question

Will an aftermarket Y-PIPE make any difference? Right know I have Kinetix high flow cats (being delivered today) stock y-pipe, 350Z midpipe and Stillen rear section. Before I get flamed about this understand that I only paid $100.00 for the rear section and the midpipe was given to me by a friend that put a Borla exhaust on his 350 (midpipe cost me $40 to install). Will an aftermarket y-pipe make any difference in performance? If so what y-pipe should I get? If it will not help my pieced together exhaust system, I will just by a Borla or some other aftermarket exhaust. Any comments are welcome, Flame on.

Put the car on a lift and look at the OEM exhaust system. Its not a terrible design, but still could use some improvements. The crimp bends in the OEM Y-pipe are restrictive: the inner diameter is smaller than the pipes. If the objective of the exhaust is to remove the exhaust gases fast, then the OEM Y-pipe has got to go.

I am not of fan of the Stillen or Borla single muffler set-up, but that just a personal choice.

a. Keep what you have a get a Y pipe.
b. Toss the exhaust in the trash and get a complete cat-back exhaust.

Happy shopping.

If you like the sound of what you have; I would definitely say keep it and change to an aftermarket Y-pipe!

First off, the stocker does NOT have a resonator from what I see.

Secondly, a more free-flowing Y pipe would yiled a slightly louder sound =)

i got the stillen Y-pipe...yes its great...stillen claims 7 rwhp. It's just a little louder over 4k rpm with stock exhaust and midpipe.
Very easy to install yourself, takes less than an hour with basic hand tools.
its also a lot lighter than the stocker.

if you keep the stock exhaust but change out the headers and cats, if you do a ypipe (versus keeping stock ypipe) general consensus is that you will loose a HUGE amount down low and gain very little up not - so not worth it if you're retaining stock y-back exhaust.

ok sorry to hijak this thread, but i am in the process of getting a new exhaust and im thinking of getting an ARK exhaust system and it comes complete with headback. it has pretty much test pipes with no cats.

For this i was wondering what i woudl need to do in order to not get a CEL. i ahve been told to tie off my 02's in the engine bay but not sure if thats a good idea, or wether i shoudl just get a cat and ahve that put in, for a nicer tone and not so raspy plus being able to weld the 02's into the cat.

any input woudl be greatly appreicated.
