Default what are symptoms of a exhaust leak?

does it make a werid noise? All i know is that your suppose to feel power lost but i cant really tell. Tonite i got out of my car and i realized there was this werid noise. This tick tick noise coming from near my engine bay and some pop crackle pop from the back of my car. Is that just my exhaust cooling down or is that some leaks i have in my exhaust. I have a custom exhaust and there arent too many pieces to it. I also run TP so thats why i cant really explain if i have exhuast leak or not cuz its just too damn loud to decifer.

Well I don't know how an exhaust leak sounds but I just had a problem like that. My passanger side HFC cracked on me and everytime I would drive it it made a weird rattling noise at 2500-3K rpm. Not a tick tick sound though.

Well, those ticking and popping sounds you're describing after stepping out of the car are the normal result of the engine and exhaust cooling down. That doesn't mean anything.

Was the ticking happening while it was running or after it was turned off? Because the cooling tick will only happen with the car off...an exhaust leak tick will happen with the car running.

lose of power, you'd see it on a really cold day (i.e., below 0 on cold-start), and a tic'ing sound at idle - it'd be very hard to miss (and obviously you'd have the tic'ing sound all the time, not just after a hard-run)

a small exhaust leak would not cause a noticeable loss of power. When I first installed my Tahoe's catback exhaust I had a leak due to a missing gasket that I was supposed to reuse. I took it to the local exhaust shop where I bought the setup and they listened for the leak and told me exactly what happened. Youll here a ticking sound louder than normal while the car is running. It wont be a huge difference but its kind of an air like hissing/ticking.
