Didn't you notice the onset of problems with the test pipes? I would start there first.

Its quite possible that there could be an exhaust leak causing the loss of power.

I know I have an exhaust leak for sure because the gasket between my y-pipe and b-pipe is leaking. Also, I noticed a big drop in power after the k&n intake.

Hmmm...
Well an exhaust leak can certaintly reduce power. You might want to replace that gasket.

And if you noticed a loss of power when the intake was installed then definetly take it off and see if the power comes back.

Dude the issue with the exhaust as well as your restricted intake are probably totally compounding your power loss. I would just pop out the snorkel piece, intake tube, or whatever that inlet piece is called for starters to get a little breathing room and fix that exhaust asap. If that doesn't remedy it you could always try replacing just the K&N filter with a JWT cone for dirt cheap instead of shelling out for the gruppe-m piece. I agree that it looks like cai done right, but for the price I'm not sure I would want to shell out for it without knowing I wouldn't still have issues. My 2 cents anyway.

Just take the filter off and put a panty hose over it or something. Drive it around a bit and see if that fixes it. It will certainly be getting enough air then.

I get the feeling that if the K&N really has effected his performance it "may" not be from the filter being restrictive but it might be that the large diameter black air tube has detrimentally changed the tuning frequency of the intake system. ...Its just speculation though.

In any case your suggestion would be a good way to see if the filter is the cause.

Then swap back to the stock tube and try it out also.

I'll try all that tomorrow, because I am super busy today. That kinda sounded like the old hamburgler slogan "Can I take a burger today if I pay you tomorrow".

I have testpipes with the non-fouler mod as well and mine work awesome. I dynoed before and after I put them on and gained some good power and I have not felt like my power has died down any.

I envy the fact that you used to have that supra. When you reset the ECU did u leave it off over night or pump the brakes? I Reset mine by removing it and putting it back on 2 seconds later which did nothing.

Thanks, but I miss my 2jz .

I reset it a few times actually. I removed the negative cable a few times but not for the overnight periods like others. I also did the technosqaure reset procedure a few times as well.

The stock cold air intake is actually very good in my opinion.

I believe any filter in the engine bay will not draw in cold air when warm and may have restricted flow.A friend of mine was 50hp down with a carbon fibre plate over the intake!

It would be very interesting to dyno your car as it is now and then with the stock airbox on. I tried a straight swap with the S tune filter and gains were only about 1 hp. Interestingly each dyno run showed a 2 hp increase...

cheers

Paul

Put the stock intake back on...Fellow 97 Supra and Z owner...

Cheers

Paul

i've never understood how people mess up their MAF from too much oil ;I always glob my k&n recharger oil on and have never had a problem since i've been using k&n filters.....I mean, the only way I could see over-oiling it is if you sprayed on half the can, waited 20minutes for it to dry, then sprayed the other 1/2 the can.....
