Default Installed Crawford Cats and Nismo Exhaust

My God, it's a lot louder than I expected. Too loud for me in fact. Is it the cats that makes the system so loud? All of the posts I've read about Nismo was that it was similar to stock, in note, but a little louder. Between 2,500 and 3,500 rpm's I feel like everyone is staring at me because it's so loud.

It always sounds like I'm in a parking garage.

I have the Nismo cat back and I love it. It is louder than stock, but not "I'm always in a parking garage" loud. My guess is that it's the cats, or the combination of the two.

I have TT & NISMO, without TT it was a nice sound, went TT and used straight test pipes, way unaceptable too loud, then went stock cats, sounded like an electric motor, then I went Kinetix HF cats, still loud, but acceptable, I have been told that the NISMO is very loud with any change to the cat configuration, it is in my case.

Thanks. That's what I'm finding on other threads. The cats are the cause I'm certain of it. It's too bad because I like the added horses and I won't like losing them, but I feel like a ricer boy. I'll probably have them removed next week.

Hmm, was wondering about this... I like my Nismo as-is with stock cats and a few intake mods. I was eyeing hi-flow cats, but was afraid it would change the sound too much or make it too loud. Guess I'll pass on them.

When you drive through a parking garage, do you set off alarms?

Welcome to the world of high-flow catalytic converters. For more fun add headers.

Haha, not sure of that yet, but if I did drive thru one I bet I would set some off. I never realized how much louder cats can make a car. Learning by trial and error I suppose.

Mine is loud, and TT quiets down the exhaust. I can 't imagine how loud without the turbos.

did you have any fitment issues? The crawford cats sit a little lower and don't agree with the Nismo Y-pipe perfectly.

Are you guys serious? Is it really THAT bad?

I'm probably going to do the Nismo setup with crawford HFC.. I didnt' realize it was THAT loud. Would you guys say that it is less than the 95db level for california?

Let me know, very interested.

Although I'm told that the Crawfords look a lot like the stock cats, they are illegal in California. I too looked into them, but decided it was too risky with all the aero mods that I've done, and my car is "write me a ticket" red. There's too much chance of getting pulled over with a "can I have a look under the hood". Headers w/ Nismo cat back quite loud enough thank you.

Guys, keep in mind that I've never modded a car before. So, my idea of what loud is may differ from yours. Some people love the attention they get from the sound, which is not what I'm after. I'm after a little more giddy-up with just a little more noise than stock. Are there any other hi-flo cats that are a little more tame? There probably are, but the hp gain is negligible.

I took it on the highway today, for the first time, and it annoyed me. The grumble it makes got on my nerves pretty quick. These may be available for purchase next week. I bought them from Crawford, but they're refurbished and I got them for $250 + shipping. I'll let them go for $225 + shipping. They looked great and I had no fitment issues w/ the Nismo exhaust.

I do have to add, however, that the HP gain I got....I will miss.

Im super happy with just my Nismo cat-back and Popcharger.Sounds perfect for me. Was the HP bump really noticable? Was thinking of doing the Crawford HFC when I leave Cali.

My suggestion is that you leave the exhaust as is for a couple of thousand miles. As you mentioned, loud is subjective. Initially the increase in noise is annoying, but after awhile it becomes normal.
