yes i have before and after dyno sheets. i will work on getting them so it all reads correct. they are on my desk top on a disk. its pretty much a 5 hp and 5 tq all the way across. i am thinking that NA this mod has more of an affect while driving. i have the air ramming in through a air duct through the stock box. for what the accelerometer tells me, the car pulls harder than it did before on the same day and same variables.

my exhaust, headers, and flywheel will be in soon as well as a bored TB and ported upper plenum. i am hoping to put down mid to high 270s SAE corrected. hopefully more but i like to think realistically

i ran my 12.9 with my 251 to the wheels so i cant wait for a few more things

matt i had the stock lower plenum in. messing with it, i do believe that it pushed my powerband up into stock limited unreachable rpms. it will have to go back on the shelf for a bit....

I'm not sure about that, as any "lag" would be on the hot side. The MAF only slightly (mm) smaller than the whole intake tract, so I'm not sure how much of a gain you would see, if any.

I see what you are saying and now that I think about it you are correct. All lag would be produced before the hot side and between the compressor wheel and the TB. So essentially this might make the turbo slightly more effecient but more than likely not measurable.

well taurren, if slightly means 4.5 mm then you are correct...

i mean people gain power with 2mm overbore on the throttle bodies on MOST cars.

just curious the q45, m45, fx45 is the sensor housing larger than the z's. Its a separate part might be able to drop the z sensor in. i am going to take a ride next week to an infiniti dealership and take a look but if someone already thought of that it would save me time.

amuse seem to make somthing similar to this larger MAF intake pipe mod

http://www.webamuse.co.jp/new/20050826/2005_0813.jpg

seems to increase in diameter just after the maf housing. its ti too looks good.
not too sure if the stock strut fits??

Lol, dude wtf? You've got either way too much money, or way too good of a hook up on motor parts.

a larger maf should always help. someone should really do some research on this and come out with an unit that can still use our stock maf sensor. this should provide good hp/tq gains for sure..

you couldn't use the stock sensor unless the computer were adjusted too. the problem is that the computer wouldn't understand how much air is coming in. the sensor is calibrated to a certain size opening and all the readings it give the ECu are based upon the airflow through a certain sized oriface. If you change the oriface, the voltages that the ecu gets from the MAF would be off compared to the air mass entering the engine.

Jeremy was able to use a larger MAF housing because he can make the needed adjustments through the UTEC.

Before you try to reinvent the wheel, measure the oem stock MAF restriction in inches water column at the highest rpm and HP peak rpm to quantify what the possible gains are.

The last time I measured a Q45 MAF at 7100 rpm it had a restriction of 6.8" W.C. with power production of ~~ 315HP.............7" W.C. is ~~ 1/4 psi restriction or 1.7% dropping to 1% at 6,000 and 1/4% at 4,000 rpm.

Generally Nissan allows engineers to give up to 1% in peak power to optimize MAF resolution for accuracy at cruise..........they usually beat this now to roughly 1/2%-3/4% in power loss.

Good luck beating the engineers...........same situation with throttle bodies.
Of course 1/2% here and there can add up.

Note the new 2008 prototype engine has DUAL TB and Dual MAF to squeeze another few HP out.

Cost effectiveness is the key with the typical mods costing $50-$100 per HP gained at flywheel.

I guess i am not 100% certain the gains.. i know on the VR4 guys.. which has a draw through setup.. the larger maf helps the turbos spool up a bit quicker (300-400 rpm).. although i am not sure if the blow through setup will yield the same results. the comparison should be between for a 2.5 inch vs 3 inch. if you look at our Maft.. it clearly shows that the circum is smaller than the intake piping.. which to my belief that a same diametere maft would help the engine breath easier.

if everything goes well, i am looking at a dyno here soon, i will be trying out all kinds of things, the stock maf maxes out at over 300 hp. it should work well with what i am trying to do. with my larger maf housing, larger hole in airbox, larger TB and plenum neck, there should be an increase in power. i will figure it out...
