Interesting. Does the Air Filter actually sit in the box. or does it just cover it up?

The stock box have the K&N replacement inside not the injen

So you basically have the injen piping that leads to the stock box with a K&N filter in it? What is the advantage of that? Doesn't that take away from the point of a CAI which is that it's supposed to suck air from a spot away from the engine? Thanks again.

Theres is a tread with that point, but basically is for more stock looking, and the stock box is basically a CAI

Do you use the heat shield?

Also, how does it sound compare to stock rubber pipe? Thanks!

this question has prob. already been posted, but did you have to do anything else to hook up the injen pipe to the stock box, as far as buy fittings or anything. thanks,

Seems like a big waste of $225+ to me. What advantage is there to doing this?

I remember reading about some possible improvements over the stock pipe (smoother inside for better flow), however I agree with you on the cost. If Injen (or someone else) sold just the pipe for less $$, then it might be worth looking into. I wouldn't pay for an entire CAI kit & only use one piece...

True but, if you look at the price Avalon is quoting for the JIC intake.... which looks pretty much like the Injen tube.... you could buy the Injen, do the above install, and have some leftover parts to put on your coffee table, and save a couple of bucks....

Previous threads put forth the idea that the real airflow benefit of the aftermarket CAI's may be a better intake tube, rather then the stack (I may be using the incorrect terminology but you get the point)... getting rid of the rubber accordions on the stock intake tube and replacing with smooth aluminum....

Just an observation....

Cheers!

The JIC is a different system it uses a different filter design inside the stock looking housing.

Cone filter vs. flat filter I believe....

Any pics of the cone? How will it's airflow be compared to a K&N flat? Does the cone filter help with smoothing out airflow? Does the K&N? Does it matter?

Questions I don't have the answers too....

Anybody know?

The cone filter may have the velocity stack, so it may improve airflow. But the stock air box is a TRUE ram air... I've read somewhere that VandyZ confirmed that the stock airbox has more pressure?

pls correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct! We are ramming air. At speed WOT we are pressurizing the air box (measured with a manometer). This won't happen with a CAI. I will say there may be some advantages to the cold air, but because we are ramming air the temp difference is negligible.

I really like this mod. This is the best of both worlds. You have a completely smooth route from air box to TB. The only thing I would change with a similar setup is a larger MAF and place it closer to the TB so the readings from the MAF are more true to what the TB/Plenum sees.

These are my plans along with headers and modified intake plenum. Even with that the full potential will still be limited until the ECU is flashed. We will just have to wait and see, its getting closer though!

No just take out the stock pipe and put the injen in place.
