Default MD Iso Thermal Throttle Body by pass valve

Can any damage occur by blocking the coolant from reaching the throttle body with the by pass valve? It would seem that pressure would build at the blockage created by the valve when in the off position. Has anyone had any issues with this?

It's unlikely as there is no real pressure in that line. This same mod has been around on many other cars for several years. So long as you don't let a large amount of air enter the hose from either side of the shut-off valve there should not be anything to be concerned about.

No damage will occur. That line diverts a small amount of water flowing from the block than ultimately goes back to the water pump. It's similar to the heater bypass line. When the heater is off, no water flows through it either.

Check out the diagram from the FSM...

So... any thoughts or experience with running a throttle body bypass? Good bad or indifferent? I've heard claims as high as a few horsepower due to the lower temps but of course if it sounds too good to be true it usually is...

the general rule of thumb I've always heard is 1 HP for every 10 degree F drop...only downside I can see is if you're driving in freezing conditions - it's rare, but some cars have had recalls b/c their TB would get stuck in the open position (it usually happened when ppl were dirving w/ Cruise control for long durations)

**it's not really relavent with the 350Z, but remember if it was a carbeurated car, it's much easier to get freezing temps (as the gas evaporates, the process is endothermic)...Airplanes have to worry about that.
