Default SOUND CLIP: Borla Without Resonators

I'm now running a Borla true dual catback that I picked up from CJ Motorsports' shop car.
Normally, it has a resonator on each side just after the h-pipe. On mine, I have pipes welded in place of the resonators. (Also the h-pipe is welded to prevent any possible leaks.)
I was nervous, I really was. What if it was too loud? What if it was raspy? All I can say is- Just do it. It sounds amazing. Even deeper than before, and louder but not unpleasantly so. There is no rasp and there is no drone. It's great. Caveat- if you have test pipes or headers then this will probably be raspy as hell, but I don't, so I couldn't tell you for sure.
Download the sound clip!

Sounds great! Makes me wish I had eliminated the resonators before I sold the Borla TD.

tag so i can hear this at home... i have been wanting to do this, although I have headers, OEM cats tho... might give this a try anyway, just not weld it in there. What pipes did you use to replace the resonators?

Order up 3 feet of 2.25" stainless tube and take it to a muffler shop. It shouldn't cost more than an hour of labor to replace them. Welding is required to do it right.

I love the sound, but IMO it's not the sound that's "right for my Z."

I really love the sound stock, if you don't take the resonators off the Borla exhausts, does it have a smoother, softer and more subtle sound?

I'm looking for something like that; I'm interested in Borlas because people have been telling me they produce the most bhp/tq out of the popular Z exhausts.

I replaced my Borla Resonators with Injen which are much longer and wider I also run Megan resonated test pipes and I am just as loud as stock ! With no raspyness at all and just a little deeper tone.

Ok, u mean Mugen right? Anyways so did you replace your entire Exhaust with Injen ones or just the Resonators with ones from Injen? Kinda confused here sorry still a bit new to the whole car deal.

But yeah I'm looking for something like that, but are you then still using a catback exhaust?

You can PM me as well, that might make things easier.

Sounds good, very similar to my stock exhaust with no resonator just deeper and not so mellow. A little raspy when you first took off but the car was probobly cold, Im sure it goes away when its warm.

Sounds aggressive, but I too thought it sounded a little raspy when you took off...right around the 14-15 sec. mark.

I was told that if I had the h-pipe welded I wouldn't be able to remove it without cutting it...guess this proves otherwise. Anyone else have theirs welded?

In that one exhaust shoot out (which I can't find a link to) they found that the Nismo cat-back produced the most power. The nismo definitely has the sound you're looking for.

I did it when the car was cold so that people would hear it as its loudest. It mellows out when it warms up. It's about as loud, but the tone changes a little.

i have been looking for it too but the HKS made the most power, then Borla then Nismo

I thought the Nismo was the lightest though? If anyone has a link to that exhaust shootout that would be great.

We're thinking of different reviews then 'cause there was no HKS in the one I saw.

Oh ok. I think the one I saw was done by Sport Z magazine back in early fall last year. Could have sworn that had the HKS as #1. Oh well.

I spoke to my shop that specializes in exhaust work and they said they could remove the resonators and put in new pipes all for $65. Don't know if thats welding or not, but is that a good price?
