If I turn off CEL light, can the code still be seen by inspector(OBD2)?

THIS JUST IN: After resetting the ECU (good ol' disconnect battery and hold dowm odometer button trick), 100 HARD miles later with no CEL, I went through the whole NY inspection and PASSED! No code(s) came up, their computer connected fine, and I can now sleep easy. Hope this thread helps alot of you guys out, thanks for all the input.

I am a NY vehicle inspector. In NY state any car 2001 and up are only allowed only one NOT-READY. Usually, when you clear the code, 5 of these pop up and they only turn to READY as you do the appropriate drive cycle. It is possible that 100 miles you did turned all of the component monitors to ready, or left one not-ready.....without storing the trouble code. This is the way to get 'lucky' with an inspection. Sometimes when my customers drive 60 miles, it isn't enough to have all the component monitors set to READY....especially on Nissans.
