Default Any interest in a Y-pipe???

There is a local performance shop in the area that is working on some exhaust parts and they have prototyped a couple and dynoed them. They have made a straight pipe to remove the silencer and increase diameter and they have also made a y-pipe which is 2 1/2 each side going into 3" and will mate with original straight pipe or new straight pipe.

The base dyno was 237.2 HP and 231.9 TQ
Dyno with straight only was 242.4 HP and 239.2 TQ
Dyno with y-pipe and straight was 248.2 HP and 243.2 TQ

So I would guess that the y-pipe would be the difference around 5-6HP and 4 TQ.

I am just interested in the y-pipe as I am getting an exhaust already and don't particularly care for the non silencer sound, too raspy for my taste. I will be going over to get copies of dyno's later and he has the prototype at the manugfacturer getting it setup and will know pricing later, he will have blackened and polished options, the material will be T304 SS. Any interest?

Possibly, depends on quality....

What shop is it, and what is there pricing like?

On the VQ30 (max) the y-pipe hands down made the biggest gains, exhaust (catback) and intake did very little, headers did nothing, as did porting the manifolds.

I would also wait at least until July to start buying performance parts to see what is available. It is great that so many companies are offering parts, and there will be a large market for such items, but the compitition will be fierce....

I would think a full exhaust should gain up to 20 HP, that is y-pipe (downpipe), cats, catback exhaust. I gained over 25 on my maxima with those mods, on a 3 ltr. engine. I do think the Z's VQ35 is probably more effecient than the max's to begin with, so I will lower my expectations some.

Oh, one other thing, do the use mandrel or non-mandrel bends?

The quality will be good, he told me the manufacturer he is sending it to have them made but I don't recall, I'' ask him later. They will be Mandrel and as for pricing he is waiting until he finds out what his costs are going to be for setting up at the manufacturer and their cost to him for each pipe, he thinks he will go ahead and have 10 made to begin with to try to get some costs spread out, I have spoken for one and the other guy with the 350Z he tested is already spoken for another.

I would think that he should know pricing within a week or two. As for waiting I figured not much else can be done with this type of part, I figured that the exahust I bought is probably good for 6-7 HP, if this y-pipe is good for 5-6HP plus the 5-6 HP from intake that gets me to 17HP at the wheels or around 20 at the cranck for 307 HP. The only other things I envision doing are the high flow cats and the ECU hoping to put it at around 350 at the cranck.

You can mark me up for interest. This of course does depend on cost but I'm interested in a Y Pipe.

Great I will definetly let him know about the interest, I have informed him that price would definetly be the deciding point for most if not all, so I already have a mental threshold of pain I would have for the Y-pipe so I'll try to steer him.

I haven't talked to him yet since Monday so I don't know the shop he is using for manufacturing them, but I will keep on him to find out out the cost, mys guess is a week or two.

Hey Westpak

perhaps ask the shop if they can either Jethot coat the pipes or do them in stainless steel...

i know that will raise the price some, but JetHotting it will prevent metal fatigue due to the heat and it will help with rusting..

OK, I just talked to the guy and it will be painted with Jet-Hot black paint and made of T304 Stainless and will be manufactured by Brullen exclusively for Japtrix.

The pricing will be as follows:
600.00 for both Y-pipe and straight pipe
350.00 for Y-pipe only

The straight pipe is 3" with a resonator and the Y-pipe is 2 1/2" into 3" and he is working on a muffler as well. The y-pipe will fit with stock straight pipe as well. He will make an initial run of 10 so let me know if you have an interest, right now you can order with 2 week leadtime.

Is that a good price for the straight and y-pipe? $600? Thanks!

Not to be an azzz, but any decent exhaust shop could make a Y pipe for alot less, Stainless Pipe is about $7 a foot. I am interested but if the price is to high, ill just have my local exhaust guy make me one.

The shop is in South Florida close to West Palm, that is the pricing he told me and I don't know if he will go down. Also they will warranty it for life.

right now I have flowmaster 80 series and a straight pipe to replace my resonator. Would I just need the "y pipe" set up only, or what would I need if I were to buy a set up like this????

Could you PM or post some pics of the two options please, so I can see what I would be buying???
