Default Terrible rattle with top speed and test pipes!!! HELP!

Ok so i have an 06 Z. I have Top Speed Pro-1 exhaust, intense power y-pipe and kinetix test pipes that i just installed. B4 I installed the test pipes I did not have any rattles from the exhaust. After installing the test pipes earlier in the week I am havin a terrible rattle. It only happenes on a down rev at exactly 2500 rpms. I can feel the exhaust shaking the car really bad and it makes a terrible and really louds noise. I dunno what it could be. I checked all the hangers, theyre good. The exhaust visually does not seem to be hitting or sitting on any part of the car. So what the hell could be causing it to do it? The next thing is Im having an exhaust leak near where the test pipes connect to the y-pipe. I put my hand near there and could not feel any leaks. All the bolts are tight, and there are no cracks in the welds or anything. The only thing that I can think is that the gasket could be leaking. I re-used the oem gasket being that I only had 1600 miles on it when i did the test pipes. Do you think that the gasket could be the cause of the leak since i broke its original seal? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm having the same problem with my Borla TD that I installed last week. I checked the same things you did and didn't see any problems. I think it is the gaskets. I'm going to throw it back on the lift tomorrow to be sure.

how do you know you have a leak at the Y-pipe - test pipes connection? Most ppl report a 'hissing' type noise from TP's when decelerating around 2.5K rpms (in gear). I had the exact same sound and at first thought it was a leak...but since I don't have the sound at any other time, and tons of others here something similar, I think it's just something that comes with TP's.

No the hissing/leaking noise is constant at all times. The rattle is only present at 2500rpm on the decel. I know that the tp make a slight hissing noise and Ive heard them do it, but this is deff a leak and constant at all times.

Naah.. this sounds is more like a rattlesnake. btw, just picked up a new pair of gaskets (cats to y-pipe, or pipes, in my case). They're about $10 each from Nissan parts.

Troubleshooting rattles under the car is a headache. Clearance may be fine at idle, but once torque is applied, the engine and everything connected to it twists. Then you get the rattle.

The only way to check is to put the car on a lift with someone inside. Try to duplicate the rattle. Few shops allow someone inside the car while it it on a lift (safety).

Best of luck.

I thought about it moving, while under load, but does the motor produce enough move to make a pipe move 1" or more to rub somewhere? Because the exhaust has atleast an inch of clearence everywhere. But then again you could very well be r ight. Ill have to try this tomorrow. Thanks

could the exhaust rattle be cause by the kinetixs test pipes not having the brace like the oem cats, and theyre causing the exhaust to have a little more movement in them?
