Any Interest in NISMO style Exhaust?

I was recently speaking to someone who specializes in making custom exhaust kits. He told me that he could duplicate the NISMO exhaust to where it would look and sound the same, even the gains would compete with the original. The kit would be a cat-back exhaust with gaskets and bolts included for the ridiculous price of $500 shipped. Seems to good to be true, I ordered a prototype and will test it out soon enough to find out. I wanted to know if there was any interest in a kit like this for an awesome price. Also he would be using only the highest grade SS materials and everything would be tig welded for a seamless finish. Figure I would throw this question out there and see what you guy's thought.
Am I the only one that thinks most of the available exhaust systems are retardedly overpriced? I mean, really, is there somethig special about the Nismo exhaust that justifies a near $1000 price tag? All it is is some piping and a muffler. Please. I would expect to pay that for a custom exhaust, not a mass produced unit.

I liked the sound of the nismo but paying that much just for that and a little added bling was not enough for me to spend that kind of money. I have been looking for other alternatives and I hope this works out.

If you look at the Nismo exhaust, it's one of the better deals out there. Most exhaust systems are as much as the Nismo if not more just for a y-pipe back system. The Nismo includes a y-pipe and also higher quality gaskets, and bolts. All for only $935 on our website. Consider a JIC y-pipe alone goes for around $435 usually.

I would listen and see one before you shell out the cash. NISMO has a pretty unique sound. Also, the NISMO exhaust is top quality.....just go look at one. Replicas are generally cheaper because of build quality.

Thats the problem, exhaust clips sound very different coming from a recording played over a PC then in person. The manufacturer offered me a money back guarantee, he is that confident of his product. All transactions where done via PAYPAL so if it does not work out I can just return the item for a full refund. I decided just to take the chance and be the lab rat for this experiment. I would gladly post all the info when it gets in and I am done installing it. Wish I could dyno the z and see what kind of gains this has but I just recently installed a Stillen s/c and gains are different on f/i applications compared to n/a.

Maybe so but I cant justify spending an extra $500 b/c it says NISMO on the bottom of the canister and on the tips. NISMO does not make their own exhaust anyway, they have someone else do it and stamp their name all over it. What is the difference in a well built replica and the original? If they use the same materials and are made the same way I don't see how you can mess up replicating an exhaust. Unless having the NISMO logo somehow adds HP's and enhanced the tone? I guess we will have to wait and see, its hard for me to believe that the manufacturer would offer a full money back guarantee if he did not believe in his own product. I could very well be wrong, this is what I want to find out.

A NISMO knock-off is just that: an imitation.

And an Oreo is an imitation of a Hydrox. What's your point? You're probably automatically assuming that, since a Nismo exhaust costs twice as much, then it must be twice as good, right? Do you really think you'll keep your car long enough to see if the cheaper exhaust falls apart? What is your justification for paying double, other than name recoginition and "street cred"? One or two hp? .5 db louder?
Exhausts for our cars are certainly ridiculously overpriced and us (the market) see it as "better quality". It's really not. Yes, there are plenty of low-end exhausts out there that seem to have more complaints about quality (OBX, Megan), but they are mass produced just like Nismo. I think a hand/custom made exhaust, using a good muffler and good piping with good welds, will be just as good, if not BETTER than Nismo or any other overpriced exhaust out there.
Stop worrying about the damn name stamped on the side of a piece of pipe and open your eyes.

If you can do as well with a jerry-rigged exhaust from Big Bobs Exhaust and Muffler Shop, go for it.
I got my Nismo for $850 off a group buy and I know you can find used ones for around $600, so Nismo exhausts are not double the cost and you know what you're buying. Just my .02.
