Question Stock Muffler Size?

I just want to replace the muffler with either a flowmaster or magnaflow.

I am not sure what size to order? I know its single inlet, dual outlet. I dont want to rely on my measurement skills .

Thanks for the help

2.5 single in dual out. An reputable dealer will know for you, measurements should not be needed.

As for sound and power etc.

FlowMaster 3 chambers (80 series Street (not Delta Flow) for our car)

Magnaflow Street/Race (zero chambers)

slight difference in tone.

I switched from FlowMaster to Magna Flow for Nitrous purposes (and headers in the future) if you just want a better muffler but don't plan on any major mods (FI N20 etc) then get the FlowMaster 80 series for the LS1 OEM replacement. It fits perfectly and sounds AWESOME! I know I ran one. Adding a CAI will add snarl and growl so if you don't want loud and obnoxiuos do some research

So the dual outs are also 2.5" correct. When I call around people seem to have no clue to what fits the Z.

thanks

Default Correct

same size in and dual out.

Some minor rerouting will be required to keep your stock tips even, make sure they/you pay special attention here, mine are perfectly even and straight and don't stick out too far.

try here

Or call 916-929-6200 an Authorized FlowMaster dealer ask for Mike Shinnand tell him you did Max's Blue FireHawk, Red Z28, Black 2001 Monte Carlo SS and my Blue 350Z. Tell him it is the 80 series for the LS1 engines but is 2.5 in/out as an OEM replacement.

If he doesn't help you please let me know and I will drive down there (5 minutes from here) and slap him upside the head with a trout.

Man this is getting to be real difficult....lol!

I called ole Mike Shinnand and told him about you and the cars etc.. He told me to come on in and he would talk to me about it. Then I told him I was in Orlando florida. So he said to stop by when I get there.......lol!!! I asked him about the flowmaster 80, he stated that is the loudest muffler they make and I may be concerned about how loud it is.

I want it to be louder than stock obviously, with some growl to it. As long as it doesnt drone like my old mustang used I am ok.

I appreciate your help Max

I just called Mike Shinn and I gave him a rash of crap.

His excuse was he doesn't "give quotes out over the phone."

I told him how much business I had brought him and got a little pissed and he became a little cooler.

Understand his shop is in "The Hieghts" Del Paso Heights and he gets allot of BS'ers, it's a very rough neighborhood.

After I explained to him what you were attempting to do he completely understood and he also apoligizes to you.

So here is the deal from him (that's almost all he sells is FlowMaster.)

They only make one 80 series model for the LS1 (which is what we are using) even the one I sold here to another is using it.)

So after all the drama here is the part number you need.

FlowMaster part # 42583
It's the only model made for our application.

I think what is confusing people is you are asking about a Z28 or Trans Am muffler but telling them it's for a Z.

That's no excuse for them though!

As for sound, it's beautiful. PM Zogan he has one and he too loves the sound. IMO, it's the perfect muffler for our Z's tone wise.

At idle you will barely here it. It will just scream when you open it up. A good scream not a rice scream.

Thumbs up

It's nothing. Others have helped me too, I love this board.

Anyway, how is Orlando?

I was there for Boot Camp for 8 weeks then 4 more weeks for Fire Fighting School and really liked the surrounding areas like Coco Beach but the humidity took some getting used too. It was June of 1980 (yeah I'm old) and the first week was hell.
Is it hot and humid there right now?

Enjoy the mod!

Edit add

I just checked, Mike was right. It was in that Tognotti's link application guide I posted under Z28 80 series (LS1 Engine.)

Orlando is nice, I cant complain. The humid weather does take some getting used to but I have been here for 12 years so I can deal. I cant go back to cold weather, from D.C. originally. It was like 85 today and sunny. We only get like 2 months of cool/cold weather combined. Its funny to see people break out the ski jackets when it hits 60*.

Thanks again for you help, I am in love with this car!
