dying to see what a diffrence its going to make with a bigger mm setup on the dragstrip dyno. good luck.
To be honest, been putting all my money into my house. Remodeled the bathroom ( added corner tub and stand up shower ) and now im in the process of turning the actic into a master bedroom. Also setting up a baby's room ( little girl on the way ).

Its tough on the car being domesticated.

Thanks, she is due in MAY and will be my first.

Update on the larger MAF housing. Since i have installed the larger pipe and MAF housing, i have not had any problems. No cells or any issues with the car acting weird. I thought i might have little issues, but so far so good. I guess i did a OK job tuneing with the UTEC

Do you (or anyone) happen to know the ID of the upper plenum "neck" from the TB tp the lower plenum?

The Volkswagen guys have been running big MAFs for a while now. You can get a bigger maf and the proper size injectors and do no tunning and it will run perfectly (at least on a VW) Most guys dont do this for the hell of it for to reduce restrictions. But to go turbo. It makes it easier to get the tune correct with the factory ECU. They do this on cars built from 92 up until 2006. This includes cars that are normally aspirated and cars that come turbo from the factory. Here is something i copied and pasted from the vwvortex.com, the gentlemen who wrote this is a pioneer in VW tuning. He is one of the only ones that can create good turbo software for the vr6 engine (he does otheres as well) This info was done back in Nov 2001.

Take new injector size and divide by old injector size.
example: new = 448 cc/min, Stock = 224 cc/min

448/224 = 2

Now since flow in a pipe is proportional to the square of the diameter.
because volume flow = area * velocity.
(remember that area of a circle is [pi * radius * radius]

Take the injector size ratio above (2) and take the square root.

sqrt(2) = about 1.41

so I take the stock tube size (70mm) and multiply by 1.41.

New MAF size = 70mm * 1.41 = 99mm or to wrap it all up....

New MAF DIAMETER = 70mm * sqrt(new injector size / old injector size)

This will work for ANY size injector you want to install.

If anyone wants any other info i will try and dig up some stuff. I guess what i was getting at dont try this unless you have a way to tune it. You wont be dumping enough fuel with just a bigger MAF housing and stock injectors. Now if you did bigger maf housing and got the proper size injectors you wouldnt need tuning to have it running properly.

Car is running great now. But i did have to replace Ignition coil this week. Somehow i must of cracked the thing last year when i replaced my spark plugs. I guess with the cold weather it got worse and stopped working. All good now.

Yep, time does fly. I cant wait to get back to the track and try to beat my 1/4 mile time. Also, 2 more months and i am a dad

Awesome post. I'll definitely be doing this once some money is flowing in.

I remember one of the jdm tuners in that shootout of NA cars had a dual throttle body setup and the article said they just doubled the injector size cause with the twin throttle bodys and mafs it cut the signal in half. One of these days I am going to get my lazy *** to an infiniti dealership and see if the housing from a m45 or q45 will work with our sensor, and if its larger. I looked it up and the plastic housing is a separate part shouldn't be expensive. The coolest thing about a larger maf is the air friction or pumping loses are multiplied the further away from the port you get and besides the air filter the maf is the furthest away. I would love to see one of the people doing reflashes offer a larger maf and reflash combo. The pop charger has a good 5mm worth of meat to take out of the center. The stock maf necks down to 68~69mm at a point so a true 75mm would be nice.
for example 68.5/2=34.5 so the area of a 68.5mm throttle body would be 34.5^2*pi=3685mm^2
the area of a 75mm maf would be 75/2=37.5
(37.5^2)*pi=4417.86mm^2

percent difference in airflow

((4417.86-3685)/3685 )*100=19.89% roughly 20% area change for a 6.5mm change in diameter.

so basically if there is hp to be had aceman will show it and I can't wait.

Well, its still on the car and it still drives like a normal car

No dyno yet though. The life factor has kept me from the dyno, but it is still a plan of mine.

Need to find a larger Throttle body next.

Chances are little that the HR engine's TBs are larger, since this engine type features two of them!
