Default Reset ECU!

Tried using the ghey as$$ search and no luck.

Newb question here,

When I install my popcharger/nismo exhaust, when do I need to disconnect the battery, before or after the install, or only before I install the pop charger? Thanks!

Does this reset the ECU?

Disconnecting the battery should reset the learned fuel.

In seriousness, should I disconnect the battery? I heard to do this so a CEL does not come on?

Yes, you can disconnect the battery after doing the mod to reset the learned fuel unless you have a cipher which can do it without killing your radio stations .

Not sure if reseting would prevent a CEL.

Why would you need to reset ECU if it will learn the mods you put on anyway? Are people looking for a faster learn or something?

bingo

that or when the ECU gets lazy because it only starts giving you everything it has after you do a few WOT runs to redline **given that you do not ping at all whatsoever by running high octane fuel. Resetting it skips having to rev the engine hard to wake up the ECU, and also going thru the process of the ECU detecting ping and whether your fuel octane is good enough for full timing.

it mainly has to do with gas octane. Some people are stuck with 91 octane and you will not get 100% out of the ECU with that octane since the car was designed with 93 in mind - it will pull some timing with 91 octane.

And if you start adding better breathing parts, then it's even more likely to run lean or ping, so the ECU pulls timing.

If you have 93+ octane or retune the ECU to give more fuel and drive WOT a lot, then you will see EXTREMELY noticable gains with NA bolt on parts.

If you ever go to the track on a road course and run 101 octane fuel. You will notice a VERY noticable difference in power with the car afterword for a day or two or until you refill your gas with regular 91 or whatever octane - depending also on how much you go WOT on the street. The car becomes a beast when you start doing WOT runs every 5 seconds for 20 minutes solid with 101 octane. But when you start driving normal again, the ECU decides it's time to get better fuel economy and thus reduces timing and power. Resetting the ECU erases the reduced timing changes, but if you run low octane fuel and the ECU detects the smallest amount of ping, well you're not going to feel a change AT ALL after the first WOT run

so you might bolt on some headers, cats, exhaust and intake etc and it'll maybe feel a little more powerful, and definetly sound different, by untless you find a way to add fuel or use higher octane fuel, the Z will not really gain noticable power - double so if you have to run 91 octane fuel at the pump

my Technosquare ECU flash at the time said that I needed to run at least 94 octane to really feel the increased power

I started another thread on the same subject 2 days ago. Judging from the response, I gather that no one is really sure what good it does to disconnect the battery after a mod. I've tried it both ways, and I have never noticed a difference. It could be that the rev up motors respond differently from the non-rev ups. There are plenty of opinions, unfortunately there is little hard data, and even less knowledge out here. I would love to find some answers on this topic.

it could be that the 2005's and later react differently

you have to let the battery stay disconnected for awhile too - maybe about 8ish hours
