Default put in plenum spacer, now idle is uneven

anybody install their plenum spacer and then had an uneven idle. I have custom exhaust too and I can definitely notice the difference in the sound of the idle - good for 5 sec then off for 2. It sounds like the car is goin to shut down or something. When I drive it its fine - just when i idle. I listened for any irregular sounds around the engine and didn't hear any. Anybody else have this problem - does the car just need to get used to the spacer or what? Should I reset the ECU? What could this be? thanks

You probably have a vacuum leak. Double check all the bolts and hoses on the plenum.

double checked everything. everything is on - bolts are as tight as they should be. there is a hissing sound on the left side (passenger side) of the plenum but I thought that was normal. Any more suggestions? Need some help here...thanks

Double check all of the screws, make sure the intake gasket it down all the way around. Tighten up the scrwes but do not over tighten.

Vacuum leak, left side of plenum. Check hoses for splits, gasket uneven or folded.

did you use the same gasket or did you get a new one?

its been said already, but no matter this still points to the symptons of a leak...

i woudl suggest after this. reflash yoru ecu,a nd after that reset yoru ecu everytime you add another mod...
spacers have not been problem and they are a safe n/a mod(maybe not to your aftermarket hood)

ok thanks guys...i think i'm okay - I'm gonna drive it for a little while and see how it goes then if its fine put the strut bar back on. As far as the gasket yeah I got a new one because I got the isothermal version. When I installed the gasket it definitely wasn't bent or anything - but I'll check it out.

Ur elevation in Mo. is 800 ft or so ----Jeez, just put a vacuum gage on it and u should be reading around 17 in Hg. steady. Vacuum gage is 20 Bucks or so and just plug it into ur Plenum.
Vacuum leak can cause also a lean condition which is no good.A Vacuum gage will tell u more than most diagnostic machines.

check to see if the oil filler neck rubber piece is trapped in the spacer. This is very common and will cause a leak. It is very easy for it to get caught in spacer.

hahaha, shiatt happens.

the gasket folds pretty easily. I double check every install I do and I saw one of the bolt loose in the back.. sounds like your plenum isn't sitting right.

Loosened a few bolts, then tightened them again (used leather glove method)- checked all the hoses (good to go) - put the engine cover back on and reset the ECU. Seems to be running pretty good now. Thanks for all the help guys.

On a side note, I like to go back and retorque the center plenum bolts after the engine has heat cycled.

As long as we are side noting---I use a spray that Iv been using for 20 yrs. on applications like upper plenum---I think CRC makes it and its a red sticky spray that is not unlike Anti-squeal spray for pads and terminal protection spray for Battery Terminals ---Prob the same stuff, Its all made by CRC---

Anyways--I use it on thin medal Gaskets and some head gaskets. Spray it ---let it set for 3 minutes or so and assemble. I have used it on plenum Gaskets since the spacers came out and never had a leak
