Default Deciding on intake

i know this is a stupid question.

but im about to buy my first mod on my Z. and im gonna order an intake tommarow. i see the JWT popcharger is really popular and really cheap. but is it worth the money?

what would a difference be between a JWT or the K&N Typhoon? i dont care about price at all, i just want best on my car. but between the 2, whats proven more power?

thanks alot.

ONE MORE QUESTION:
if i were to buy a plenum spacer as well. whats with all of these certain sizes that people list? will any size fit on my N/A Z?

Well, first of all the jwt is the best bang for the buck. It keeps the stock tube which is pretty good, but your left with an open filter exposed to engine heat. The typhoon is a nice unit itself, I myself was thinking about getting it, but what turned me away was the aluminium piping. Other people have bought it and are happy with it, so it really boils down to personal preference.

As for me I have the stillen cai. Which is a k&n cone filter with a venturi ring and a heat shield made of polyurethane. The shield hugs the filter toward the fender and closes off there. This keeps the heat away and you still keep the stock tube. Heres my review on it https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/243953-stillen-cai-review.html. I will get some pics up as soon as this crappy weather clears up. Hopefully when I get out of work today it will be a bit better.

As far as spacers go any size will fit on an a N/A engine. The 5/16 fits under the stock bar. Anything bigger and you have to change your stock stur bar.

**this has been asked so many times...I know the search function can take a long time b/c there's so many dicussions about these parts, but spend the extra few hours reading and you should be able to decide.

quick overveiw:
spacer - AAM angled plenum spacer or MD's 5/16" spacer both work and fit under the stock strut bar.

intake - lots of ppl have pop charger b/c it works and it's cheap. I've had AEM and Injen's CAI and like them as well. I have AAM's intake and love it.

As far as intakes go... Best bang for the buck is to not waste money on an intake if you are looking for NA performance. The stock one works just fine. About the best you get from aftermarket is the sound.

I have posted a dozen photos of the K&N Typhoon Air Intake. Just look at my past posts. The primary difference is where does the cold air come from?

+1 for JWT...it has quite a few dynos...starts makin a difference around 6k rpms...adds about 7 hp at peak...& its cheap...the other intakes dont make much more power than the JWT even tho they cost alot more. Id like to see dynos of the K&N since it has 3" piping

I would go with the AAM intake and AAM or Motordyne plenum spacer. All of the sizes will work with your Z, but some require a new strut tower bar.

I would say get a popcharger and then get the varis air duct. That way you get the throttle response of the short ram, with the direct cold air youd get from a full CAI

In an older thread (I found from a search), some guy said that his pop-charger caused his Z to stall after he let off the gas after running it WOT.

WTF? Anyone else have this problem or know what this guy is talking about?

We should arrange a meet so we can pick some of these guy's brains and find out who is competent to tune our cars and such. It is almost as if some of this stuff is a secret available only to people who have joined The Order of the Z and been hazed or sacrifized to the Godz or something.
