Default y-pipe questions

i have been trying to decide which y-pipe to buy and have
been doing a lot of searching and reviewing info, and still
wondering what would be the best thing to do.

i have fuji legalis-r exhaust now, one part of me says
buy fuji y-pipe so it would be an exact fit and because
i have heard that company has a close relation to nissan
so it should have a lot of r&d behind it

another side of me says buy the jic y-pipe because a lot
of people say they have switched from other brands
and gone with that as a final choice and have been happy

my goal is more exhaust sound than i have now, to drop some
more weight, and gain more power

i am planning on buying some HFCs at the same time so i am
sure that will help also
my other option is to sell this exhaust and go with a true-dual
setup instead

Forum members will simply recommend what they have, and offer no explanation.

I don't like piecing together and exhaust system with y-pipes and mufflers. I would just as soon replace the entire exhaust with one that is stainless steel. There are several advantages to a all-in-one-box cat-back exhaust:

a. It fits, and the connections are the same inner diameter.
b. You know what it will sound like beforehand. Just listen to another 350Z with the same exhaust.

i understand your point, but the cat back exhaust i purchased did not
include the y-pipe that is the problem i had, thats why i am having
to ask for help now, i actually considered the injen exhaust for a
moment but then have read some bad things about it.

sounds like i might should get the fuji y-pipe that way it will
maintain a consistent exhaust flow(same diameter tubing, exact
flange fits, etc..)

one thing i was curious about is the different shapes that the
two y-pipes carry.. fujitsubo follows the same stock curves with
just a larger diameter pipe that has no resonators and no heat
shields-which should help me in my original pursuit of: less
weight, more sound, and more power.
with the same curves to the pipe it should not lose torque and
it states a "5whp gain"

with the jic y-pipe it carries a straight through design with little
bends or curves, which i would think may help hp but maybe lose
too much backpressure and reduce torque

so, with the above items said what does everyone suggest now?

i got stillen y-pipe and it fits like a glove and light weight at the same time. i've had it for three years. Stillen claims 7hp gain. Very easy install btw.

i have never seen the japtrix y-pipe before but i will do some
internet searching next to get pics and info, i have always
heard stillen was a good product but was not sure how well
it would fit my current system, i almost bought tanabe before i
bought the fuji cat back but was not sure about its hp output
never saw any posts about it

anyone have any technical input they can share regarding the
varying shape y-pipes that are out there, there is a guy that
i have been talking to that is a master instructor at my track days
and owns a performance shop that deals with Z's and he mentions
a lot about flow, exhaust pulses, piping diameter, etc..

also thanks for everyone getting back to me with info so far

tanabe or jic gets my vote.

i have the jic, it has minor bends and seems to merge smoother than others, tanabe is a close 2nd.

We make some very nice flowing 2.5" Y-Pipes, 2.5" Metallic Highflow Cats, 2.5" True Dual Exhuast Systems, and 3" Single / True Dual Exhaust systems for the 350Z.

Our exhausts are made out of 16-gauge T-304 stainless steel tubing and the highest quality stainless steel flantes, hangers, etc.

If you'd like to take a look at them you can here:

You can also hear some sound clips here:

Let me know if you have any questions on any of them!

Thanks,

sounds like tanabe or jic are some good picks, i am planning on
staying NA so i am worried about losing tq, thats why i mentioned
earlier about the shape of pipes and losing backpressure-do you
think that would be a concern?

i also have been looking at the AAM true dual system, it looks nice
in the 3 inch titanium but looks heavy compared to what i have and
aimed more at turbo Z's, i listened to sound clip and it does sound
pretty good as well

if i decide to stay with this exhaust set up i am looking at getting
hfc's also-been looking at UTR as my first choice=decent price
decent reputation from what i have read

The AAM 3" True Dual Ti Exhaust System is simply bada@#! It works great NA (but a little overkill if you plan to stay NA) and is definatly suited for high-horspower turbo cars. Some of our customers use the optional exaust silencers for NA applications because it is a loud system.

The 2.5" True Dual System we have is perfect for NA applications, but I agree nothing looks so awesome as the 3" Ti True Dual!

On the HFC's, just make sure you get a good 2.5" Metallic cat and you'll be happy. Here are the Metallics we offer:
