Default Muffler Tip Polishing?

I have a Fujitsubo Legalis-R exhaust system on my Z and I purchased it used from another member here. When I got the system last summer it was a bit dirty which was to be expected as it was a used item, and now it has been through its first Pennsylvania winter and is filthy. Once the weather gets warmer I want to get down on the ground and do a thorough job cleaning and polishing the muffler tips, but they appear to have some existing tarnish. In the picture below you can see some brown-ish coloring at the base of the tips, and there is also some discoloration at the very ends of the tips.

What are my options for restoring the silver finish and luster that the tips had originally? Is it even possible?

Very possible. I just posted pix in Fujitsubo thread (same one you just posted to). I also bought mine used (although it was in immaculate condition).

Anyways, use Mother's Billet Metal Polish. Works extremely well.

Anywasy, use Mother's Billet Metal Polish. Works extremely well.
Thanks for the input. Do you use it with steel wool, SOS pad, etc? Also does it rough up the metal and leave it dull, or does it restore the shine / mirror finish? For instance the body of the muffler itself still has that factory-fresh stainless steel mirror finish and I want to try to make the tips match.

Auto Sol or similar metal polish and a soft cotton towel you can even use a air tool with a felt bob and polish your *** off you will get a mirror shine. You could use a 1000 or 2000 grit sand paper wet sand the tips and then polish as mentioned. If you use your hands it will take a while but will leave an excellent finish. It will take time. No steel wool it will dull the finish.

I just used it with a rag since using the polish will result in black oxidation rubbing off. It does NOT rough up the metal. Basically it will look like polished metal with a mirror-like-shine (almost chrome-like). When I bought my exhaust, I polished the ENTIRE exhaust (y-pipe, mid-pipe, muffler). Yes, it was pointless to do that, but it looks amazing! In fact, I think any metal polish will probably do. So go ahead and use it on your tips and muffler

I have the stainless. And lol I thought you had the Ti based on your first pix! But I guess it's hard to see the finish in the pix I posted. I just uploaded another one I have on my computer:

Basically the tips have the same mirror-finish as the muffler. Unfortunately I didn't take pix of it before the install, and it's hard to tell how much the tips shine due to my rear valance surrounding the tips.

Awesome man thanks for the pics and info. I might have to take the muffler off the car to do a thorough job. I'll post some pics in a few weeks if I can get the things cleaned off.

No problem. Good luck with it. Take before and after shots--there will DEFINITELY be a difference.
