Default test pipe torque loss

hey guys, I know that this has probably been discussed atleastq once on this forum, but I have searched for the past two days forsaking work in the process (not that I do much work anyway ). so I ask that you not blast me for a repeat thread, I tried.

I am thinkin about puttin aps test pipes on, but I have heard that I will lose low end torque with TP's, is this true,

I have also heard that I will not lose TQ if I go with high flow cats is this like an urban legend or is there some truth to the matter. if so how much TQ are we talking? I honestly don't really wanna give up any at this point if nothing else I want more, lots more.

thanks for the replies.

I think you lose some low end torque, but you pic up some on the high end...depends on what you want. Do you want more poop off the line or more junk in the higher gears? I'm sure it's not really noticeable, but I'm not sure.

personally I would perfer more low to mid range torque, I rarely ever go above 80 even in my more spirited back road romps, but I love the butt dyno feeling of lots of torque,

I just got this in an e-mail from aps "With the test pipes installed you should be able to gain power right throughout the rev range".

does anyone have these test pipes installed. if so a short review would be much appreciated. thanks

nathan i've also been considering tp. your last comment leaves me to believe that your not going to like the gains that you will recive from them. i have heard nothing but good things about ur pullies maybe you might want to consider this as your next mod. i plan on buying some soon.

Is it true that the car will burn richer if you put test pipes on?

another thing, is that I don't really care if I get any real improvement in the low to mid range TQ so long as I don't lose any. they're worth it for the increase in volume of the exhaust note alone to me as long as I don't lose any TQ

do you guys still think that I wouldn't like them?

Changing the exhaust (or intake for the matter) will alter the horsepower and torque curves.

How are test pipes in all around normal driving, will it change the performance of the car. Do you have to keep it on high revs most of the time.

Any performance mods you install will affect your Z's characteristics. Even if it's a similar setup with another Z, the mod may act differently. The test pipes will have some effect on your torque but it also depends on what kind of exhaust setup you have -- headers, mufflers, duals vs singles. I lost a bit of torque with my test pipes but then again, I also have a true dual setup. When I installed an x-pipe muffler, I regained some of the torque (and may even gained more).

also, everyone says that TP's will leave dark soot on you bumper.

will this stain your bumper to the point where it will not wash off at all or will it come off when you wash it. i've never seen a z so stained that it would come off. not even ones with TP's

I have not seen a stock vs. test pipe dyno in the two years I've been here. It's sad that no one really cares to get their products tested for quality and power.

Exactly, so when you remove your thumb from the hose, the water slows down.
