Getting a little hot in here... lol Ok, I'll go ahead and answer this. headers and catbacks can affect mileage. gains/losses depend on how you drive.

 

and the best headers are crawford but pretty costly and most people feel headers arent worth the time or money. get an exhaust some high flow cats or test pipes and a plenum spacer and u will find its worth the money

 

That wasnt his question. And I dont know the awnser to is I think it will aid in gas milage Since your freening back pressure from your motor. I also heard that bolt on lean out your a/f which aids in saving gas. I could be wrong though.

 

it should help slightly, but probably nothing you'll notice, as for the best headers thats purely a matter of opinion. i personally have nismo headers, but i'm not saying they're the best ones out there...

A motor making more horsepower will use more fuel than the same motor making less.

Not true! You can increase the thermal efficiency of a motor by expelling heat faster (with a high flow exhaust) and get better gas mileage. Typically, an exhaust setup will increase ur MPG if you get a good exhaust. BUT, most people just rev the crap out of their cars after they get an exhaust cause of the sound. The net gain is 0 or negative.

and plumpzz - expelling heat is still wasting energy. the only way you can increase power and efficiency is by converting heat to work. you can't do that (much) by changing headers or whatever...
