Default Polish Injen CAI

I've just finished installing my polish Injen CAI. I did it without removing the front bumper, it was not too difficult. I have a question for those who installed the Injen CAI, did you guys install the heat shield? I find it very difficult to install it, so i just left it out. Any tips on how to install the heat shield? Pics coming soon.

It was a pain in the ***- I managed to get it in and lined up and the screw wouldn't quite go in- had to pull it out and hit it with a hammer a few times becuase it was impeded by another piece of the engine (just barely). But I managed to get it in in about 15 minutes. Don't know how much heat it actually shields but it can't hurt having it there.

Hubby was trying to help me do that--he got frustrated because he couldn't get it to work. I have tiny hands so it wasn't too bad for me to line everything up and get that back bolt in.

You will need to remove the intake tube and MAF sensor to give you the room you need. The bolt on the left side of the manifold is easy to remove. I used a ratchet with a 6" extension. The bolt on the right side is the tough one and, yes, if you have big hands or forearms it will make things difficult. I was able to get my hands down there and used a 10mm hand wrench which has a ratchet action on one end and can move up and down at different angles (I got it at NAPA). This wrench made it easy to get the bolt off.

You then place the heat shield on top of the two holes and bolt it in place. My heat shield lined up perfectly.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

you will need to grind a half circle about 3/8" in part closets to front as it rubs on it.

Am I the only person who had absolutely no trouble with the heat shield? I did three of them of never spent more than 5 minutes on the heat shield.

Default What does the heat shield look like?

I just ordered the injen kit, i didn't get anything that looks like a heat shield. Does it look like the type that comes with the Jim Wolf pop charger?

thanks,

PITA or not it should be installed. Short answer is yes install it
CAI gets hot enough as is with the dang thing!

I have a new free track mod.

Cold compressed Air in the can sprayed on my CAI to cool it down in between runs.

I'm the Sanford and Son of free mods at the track LoL!

It would be even better if you had a large front mount intercooler that you could hit with a fire extinguisher right before each run.

I can't convince a friend with a WRX to try it out...

lol,

If it was straight C02 that might work!

It gets really hot, as does the manifold. I need a better manifold too!

as i was about to fling the heat sheild like a frisbi, my 10yr old sister walked out.

had to make a buisness deal with her. i'd get her a slurpee.... IF she helped me get the first few twists of the screws. she talked me into buying her the biggest size....i think it took her 2 days to drink it all.

BUT i was able to install the heat sheild at a cost of $2.something.

How did you get the filter and what not installed without taking off the bumper? I am working on mine this afternoon and would like to get it done as quickly as possible
Thanks

Default I used a little dish washing soap

First take off that little plastic intake piece. I guess it's in the injen instructions but here's a pic of the location.

then, put a little dish washing soap and a little water on the silicon tube, slide the tube up from the front squeeze it hard and keep pushing it up into that same hole, as it starts getting through, you can just pull it from the engine side and rotate it so it's in the correct position.

It was definitely harder doing it without the bumper off, but once you take off the bumper once, you don't want to do it again unless you have a lift.

Yup, the hardest part of all was the damn heatsink.

Default it comes out with a little force

Actually, it hits the front part of the bumper, but if you pull up on the plastic as you pull it forward, it almost feels like it's gonna break the plastic, but it doesn't, it eventually just pops out. I was scared to do it too, but others have done it the same way.

thats what i had to do too. it comes out, just keep pulling. i also took the 3 plastic rivets off of the top of the bumper so i could move it a little more.

there was no way i was going to take the front bumper off to install a CIA. it all fits well. be careful of the radiator when you slide the filter and mount under the bumper!
