Default '03 Pop Charger Review

Well with all the pop charger posts, I figured I would add my opinion on it, since I just installed it yesterday on my bone stock '03.

Install: Overall wasn't too bad, I was a bit confused at first how to perfectly orientate the heat shield and bolt it to that frame bracket but once we figured that out it was easy. Also I was unable to drill two holes into the air duct, it was just too difficult to get everything so we gave up, is this a big deal? Everything is still very sturdy so I don't think this will be a problem.

Sounds: The sound difference is noticeable right away, the "pop" whoosh sound that the thing makes at the lower rpm's is sweet. In the higher rpm's there is def. a deeper and throatier sound to it.

Performance: The butt dyno says it is a bit more responsive, and a tad bit quicker in the top end. Nothing great but it was a bit noticeable to me and my passenger at the time. I have an Injen TD going on soon so that should really open things up.

Looks: Install is clean, nothing is cluttered, and it actually frees up a bit of space. Filter looks nice and overall its a great little package.

Install Difficulty: 3/10

I would recommend this mod even to someone who is not really into modding or very experienced but just wanted to "freshen" things up with their Z. Thanks JWT!

Leaving the two duct screws out isn't a big deal; alot of people do it. I put them in, but it was a real b!tch.

If you don't mind, let me hijack this thread a little bit...
I put on my Pop Charger yesterday as well. Installation was straightforward, I won't go into it here. I also didn't put in the 2 screws. I see no need to. The only thing about the install is my filter, at the bottom it is barely touching the AC line. It is as adjusted as well as I could get it. Oh well, I'll keep my eye on it.
So for the reason I bought it - everyone likes the sound. So I started the car, and it sounded stock. I start driving, and except for some chirping and whistling, still sounds stock. I'm starting to become skeptical about the 'great sound' of the pop charger. Then I opened it up from a stop light a little bit, and it sounded much better, so I realized I had to take it on the highway so I could floor it. I hit the on-ramp, redlined full throttle in 2nd and 3rd gear, and grinned from ear to ear. Sound was great. It was a loud roar that complimented the (stock) exhaust sound. As far as being faster, who knows, but it at least sounds faster. I recommend to anyone who doesn't have one yet, even if they don't want to mod.

Take a piece of vacum hose, or fuel hose and slit it down the side. Then tie wrap it to the ac line where the pop charger touches, problem solved!! $1.00 at auto parts dealer!! Had the same prob, so i feel ya. Enjoy!!

LOL. Your first mod is always exciting whether it’s a pop charger or shift ****. So a public announcement is cool.

Yeah, didnt use the two screws here either. I used some double-sided 3M tape which have been holding up...

Both screws went in, but it was a real pain. 5/16 spacer en route.

You could zip-tie it.

When I had mine, I shoved the air duct between the where the screws go, and the rest of the air duct. Seemed to hold on just fine.
