i have searched for a while now and found nothing to answer my exact question. I have a woosh sound while driving around 2.5-3k rpm. it sounds like an air leak but i had it idling on a lift and no puttering air whatsover. will you hear rasp while rpms are on there way up as well as on there way down. when i rev it up and it comes back down i hear the rasp. im fine with that doesnt bother me too much. the question is should i hear rasp while im acclerating? it sounds like an air leak but i dont believe its leaking. should i put it on a lift and rev it to find air leak? or is checking it ad idle sufficient enough?

You are pretty much dead on describing an air leak. It can also be described as a wet sputtering that is buzzier as you drive.
Rasp in a sound caused between 3 and 4k rpms at a little past half throttle with test pipes.
An air leak sound happens at all times, even coasting or sitting and revving to low rpms.
You won't be able to tell by being underneath the car, as this noise can be generated by even the smallest gap in a relief cut that's even under a clamp, or any space between two flanges large enough to slide a fingernail in.
