You should be getting a commission from Stillen.

I've been looking for answers to so many questions you just answered in this one thread. I am definitely giving this one a try. Thanks.

^^the gap looks minimal..

Anyone know if stillen sells that shroud separately? I just checked the website and only found the kit.
If they did it would save me hours in fab time.

Thanks,

Does a balloon hold air with a nickel size hole in it!? The same goes for this diffuser unfortunately... It has to be air tight and sealed to pull 100% of the air from the inlet in the frame. Why do you think Nissan placed a foam gasket around their inlet which goes into the stock box? To keep engine heat out.

I'm thinking about covering it up with some black duct tape, even though i hate the idea of putting duct tape on my car. Maybe if i'm bored enough i'll post pix of my future duct tape mod.

Get some high-temperature resistant foam and cut it to shape, secure it with some kind of epoxy

That is the direction I was leaning, myself.

has anyone actually confirmed a reduction in heat soak or if the pop charger is prone to it with the heatshield on it?

I think Wired 24/7 did a test with cipher. Maybe he can tell us about it.

Graph showing intake temperature rise at idle, stock versus popcharger

That's with the popcharger heat shield

Hence the reason for the recently implemented intake/exhaust rules. More "good" threads and fewer useless threads such as "do you think DC headers are any good"

Aluminum foil cools down rather quickly. You could probably grab it straight from the oven without burning yourself. I do it all the time w/ pizza

Wouldn't the foil idea be much better if used on the outside?

You see, the aluminum foil feels cool when you take it out of the oven because foil conducts heat so well, partly due to the FCC (face centered cubic crystals) atomic structure. However, the heat does not just dissappear (it can't... remember Physics 101), but rather it is conducted, or dissipated, back into the air.

If the foil was used to line the inside of the box, it would release its heat back into the box. In fact, it would go so far as to reflect radiated heat (IR) from the filter equipment back to the element. Even worse, the concave nature of the inside of the housing would even focus the reflected and irradiated heat right at the filter itself!

The foil thing is a good idea, but we may have to rethink its implimentation.

Aluminium's mirror finish has the highest reflectance of any metal in the 3000–10000 nm (far IR) regions. That is a fact. Furthermore, only silver has a higher reflectivity in the near IR range.

That being the case, if one were to use aluminum foil to keep heat away from the filter, it would be best used on the outside of the heatshield (which wouldn't look so hot... pardon the pun). That way it would release its heat back into the engine compartment and speed the cooling of the box (maybe a little). Mainly, it would reflect more heat away from the box, whose black color would otherwise absorb it.

Does that make sense, or do I need to re-write that when I'm not laughing at House?

No raving here, just like the music. And i don't think anyone sells just the plastic box. Thats the the only problem with the Stillen, its so damn expensive for what it is. The cheapest i've seen it is $190 + shipping at Intense Motorsports and $200 shipped from GA Performance.
