Default Stillen Cold Air Box - installed w/ pix

I used to have a popcharger and removed it after just a month because i did not like the heat soak. So i decided to drop the cash on the Stillen CAB, because of the plastic heat shield included in the kit. I just installed it just a few minutes ago...

Pro's:
-should flow better than my stock '05 airbox w/ K&N drop-in filter
-quieter than the popcharger b/c of the rather thick plastic heat shield (~1/4")
-better heat shield than popcharger, protection from heat soak.
-fit & finish were great - the heat shield has perfect clearance around all the lines in that part of the engine bay

Con's:
-rather pricey for an intake, $200 shipped from GA Performance (support the sponsors!)

Bottom Line:
I noticed there were not a lot of Z owners have this intake, more than likely it is because it's almost 2x the price of the ever-popular popcharger. But i liked the design so i go what i wanted. I am pretty sure the price is due to the tooling cost of the mold for the plastic heat shield. Oh that and profit of course . I figured i'd put this out there for all the people thinking of buying it but won't because but there weren't any decent reviews of it.

Venturi ring, cone filter, heat shield, 4 long bolts w/ lockwashers

close-up of the venturi ring, typical.

the cold-air-box, from a head on view of how it would go in the engine bay.

close-up, installed. i'm impressed w/ the fit & finish.

a peak of filter

engine bay shot of all the rest of my mods (for now)

Pix are always appreciated.

Nice choice, and thanks for the detailed write-up.

The Stillen filter seems to have the same diameter as the Popcharger filter. Did you compare them at all before the install?

Nice system. Tempted on switching to Stillen aswell. One question...i read in another thread that on the bottom of the Stillen box there was a hole that basically would let air in from the fans...killing actual protection from heat reaching the filter...is this true???

You say its quieter compared to your JWT...how much, drastic difference or minimal?

it would be sweet if the popcharger filter fits, since its a better design with the opening in the front. anyone wanna try this and let me know.

thanks for the writeup.

Honestly, its hard to see where it would seal and not seal when its actually installed. I'll take a look again tomorrow after work and post some more pix. Either way i'll keep this one.

And for the sound... i'm not 100% sure how much b/c i got rid of my popcharger back in December. From what i remember, WOT doesn't seem different sound-wise. Around town acceleration seems you almost can't tell its there.

Might sound funny but what if you lined the inside of the box with aluminum foil, since aluminum doesnt really tranfer heat, wouldnt that keep the filter nice and cool while air is rushing in? I was shocked when my ex told me to take the cookies out of the oven with my bare hands, she told me to grab the foil and i was shocked it wasnt hot like a minute after i opened the oven.

Thanks man...its the only thing that is keeping me from selling my Injen. Here is the thread that it was mentioned that there was a hole in the bottom of the box, POST #8...https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exhaust/270773-better-heat-sheild-for-the-pop-charger.html

My butt dyno isn't sensitive enough to detect a 5 hp difference.

Looks nice...At first, I thought Stillen wasn't that great of a company, but from what I have seen/heard about this intake and the TD Exhaust...they seem to be a good company.

I took a peak under the hood before i left this morning for work. I took a picture with my cellphone but it didn't come out too good. I'll try it again later. But anyways, there is a gap between the body and plastic heat shield thats about 1" x 3" that is next to the fan shroud. I would imagine that when the fans run some hot air would get blown in after a while. How much? i don't know. Either way, i still like this intake and i'm not going to drop any more cash on another intake.
