Default Disliking the Angled Tips of the Old Injen... Modifying it?

Just got the old version angled tips Injen exhaust. After searching around for pics on the forums to see what they look like mounted on the car, to my disappointment is not what I was looking for. I'm thinking about modifying so it's straight tip or at least less angled...

Should I cut before the muffler since it's only 2.25 diameter and just reweld it at a different angle? or Should I just cut the tip and reweld it at different angle?

I'm also thinking about integrating x-pipe in the exhaust. Upon inspection of the exhaust, I realized that the pipes look similar to stillen near the cats. I may be able to utilize stillen's style for x-pipe, the closests to the cats. However, after looking around, i notice most people put x-muffler in their injen around the middle of the exhaust. but this is on the new straight tipped exhaust, so i'm not sure how that will sound. If I put in the x-muffler, then i'll have to remove injen's resonator since it's in the way. The two designs are actualy very different.

Feedbacks? Suggestions? Input?

Here's a pic of the Injen taken from xZlr8's Injen installation thread.

If you modify that exhaust you're an idiot.

They're rare and people are willing to pay top dollar. Sell it and buy another one you like and then modify it if you wish.

I think "idiot" is pretty harsh, if he chooses to replace then all the power to him.

And you say rare? top dollar? perhaps you should point him to a thread where this exhaust is so highly touted, that they are willing to pay "top dollar",
instead of speaking out your

Cheers,

What Reality said.

Top dollars? Show me, and I'll sell it for profit then make my own custom exhaust with it.

I've got the same angled exhaust on my '07. It wasn't my first choice because of the styling, but I got it for a good price. It sure sounds good, but I'll be getting a newer Injen design one of these days.

Did you add flex pipe on it? I'm afraid of the exhaust stressing my manifold and cracking the engine block..

I've also heard of performance gains if x-pipe is added as well as improving the VQ sound.

I just took off my Injen angled tip exhaust. I did not have flex pipe, and no h or x pipe. I loved the deep rumbly sound it had, but just not the drone on the highway and in-cabin noise was high. It's a nice exhaust though. It is rare, maybe for a reason, but if you want to be different, then this is the exhaust to do it with. I've never seen another Z in person with the angled Injen, only 1 member on these boards posted pics and he had the exhaust. I say leave them alone and rock the exhaust....or sell it and get what you want.

No, I put it on as is. I really hope it won't stress my manifolds that much...

I'm most likely modifying it since this exhaust seems to be the straightest with the least bends out of all the exhaust out there (especially at the rear swaybar area).

X-Pipe and Flex pipe coming!

ask and thee shall receive

let me know if you have any questions...personally I would NOT try to modify the angles of the tips, this will cause far greater headaches to get it perfect than it is probably worth. If you are not happy with the angled tips, try to sell it and get a straight tip. As far as the X-Pipe, apparently it helps to equalize each side and cut down on drone but who knows, I bought mine with the pipe already there. I believe it is a magnaflow x-pipe

and btw this isnt necessarily a "rare" exhaust but it is def. unique being that you don't see a lot of them, and that they are not up FS as often as some others...as far as sound i have received nothing but the best compliments...my friend said he thought it sounded better then a Borla TD with cams

^ Thanks for the pic! Gives me a great perception on the exhaust now.

I've decided not to re-angle the tips for the same reason you mentioned as my custom exhaust on the car right now is uneven.

I'm also going to integrate the x-pipe right before the resonator like the stillen style, seems to sound best with most performance gains there.

I will also put a flex pipe on the passenger side like the greddy evo 2 just to reduce the risk of flexing my exhaust manifold/engine block.

Thanks for your help!

Do you by any chance know exactly which Magnaflow x-pipe that is?

sorry I have no idea...i would imagine just make sure the piping is the correct diameter...as far as length, just make sure that when they make the cut that based on how long the x pipe is, that everything is still the original dimensions
