Need help with HFC choice
I just installed my borla td and was thinking about adding some high flow cats, Stillen prob. I thought it would be just slightly louder. Does anyone have any bad experiences with Stillen or maybe something else in combination with borla. Stillen was good but also wanted to make sure it wont be to loud. And I dont know why people complain about all the borla pieces because it didnt take long at all.

No worries - I have the metalic Random Techs myself, but I think Stillen's are good too. Whatever brand you go with, I'd try to stay with metalic cats. The ceramic ones won't hold up as well to abuse...
This may or may not pertain to you, but on my 06 the Kinetix cats very slightly rub or bump against the underbody when slowing down in gear. Makes a pretty noticeable vibration even without the stock heat shields in place. Even tried wrapping the cats and sticking heat deflecting foil on the underbody to suppress sound but it still makes the same vibration.
... still not bad enough for me to regret getting them.

OEM cats are ceramic substrate
Also, ceria (CeO2) is the typical ceramic substrate IIRC. CeO2 is a cool material. When there is no oxygen present in the exhaust stream (i.e. rich condition) the CeO2 lends some oxygen atoms to oxidize the unburned hydrocarbons to burn them up into CO2 + water. Then, when the cats see a lean cycle (i.e. you let off the throttle) the oxygen atoms re-attach to the ceria.
So it works like this
[Rich] CeO2 + Unburned Fuel --> CeO + CO2 + H2O
[Lean] CeO + O2 --> CeO2
Anyone still with me?
lol
Most aftermarket HFC are pure Ceria I believe, and I doubt they have any noble metals (Rhodium, Palladium, Platinum) in them, which is why they're so cheap.
What I don't understand is how do metal HFC substrates do anything? Unless they include very expensive metals they won't do a damned thing...

Thats good to know, glad you still like them, although each one does have their seperate statistics and size. Though Kinetix is usually one of the ones that z owners choose.

or you can get the Ultimate Racing ones - in the 4 years we've sold them, we've had to replace 1 set. They are offered in metal substrate, or ceramic, have proper reinforcements built in (bracket, just like factory ones), and have a 50,000 mile warranty
