yeah, I wonder if he meant resonator instead. I searched under detonator under various wording and nothing.
Hey there's the member: Joe.
So is there any actual pics of the set-up? I wanna know if he meant resonator instead. I already have the Borla XL muffler replacing my stock. Just need to find the exact parts to make this custom set-up.

i think the main thing that makes or breaks this set up is having no cats. Once cats are eliminated, it gets pretty high pitched.

are you gonna try to make it exactly like the diagram? It seems most y-pipes are connecting to the cats then to the headers. From this diagram, its seems like the y-piping comes directly after the headers. Some aftermarket y-pipes don't match the design of this diagram. It might have to be custom 2.5 coming into 3" to the resonator.

Yes, I'm asking the shop to use my borla muffler and make a new exhaust system exactly like the diagram. They said they can do anything. Can I use the stock resonator or do I have to buy one? Also, can I use high flow cats or will they ruin the sound?

if you look closely, he labled where the test pipes(no cats) are suppose to be which still shows that the stock y pipe is still there. So basically he is using stock y pipe.

Most muffler shops already have universal resonators in stock for custom jobs. I wouldn't include any stock piping in this set-up. I think the hi-flo cats will tone the sound down a little bit.

Im still kinda confused about this set-up. Do you guys think this will make good power at all. It sounds amazing... but the whole selection seems kind of random.

Waiting for someone to give detailed instructions on the build with pics.

i sent him a message awhile back. he showed me a pic of his set up but he deleted the pic in his image hoster before i can save it since i didnt have a home computer back then. He has non resonated test pipes(no brand), to a stock y pipe, then to a no name short resonator(had bad welds to the borla exhaust since the opening had to go to 3"), to a borla 3" inlet to two 2.5 outlets , then 2.5 straight pipes with no name tips.

He said he lost power since be believes where the openings go to 3" to the stock y pipe but he said the sound made up for it.

Neato. I can't say I've heard a VQ hit any similar notes without a lightened fly/clutch set-up.

But then what do I know.....

I guess I might have to change the design of the parts from the headers to the muffler. Maybe hi-flo cats instead of test pipes, and either a longer resonator or 3" piping from the stock y-pipe to the muffler.
I don't know if losing power is worth it for the sound.

yeah, it's a hard one. The sound is so amazing but i can't see losing low end torque. That's the reason why i love this car. Unless you don't use the z as a daily driver. I think using test pipes but 2.5 resonator to a 2.5 inlet muffler and dual 2.5 outlet should make the same sound(close enough anyways) but power won't be sacrificed as much.
