k&n intake??

The 350Z Typhoon Intake System will hopefully be released in July...probably late July. We are waiting for the Carbon Fiber Lids to be completed. We have to make a large amount before we can move to production, and we can only make a few of these each day. I'm not to sure exactly how much it will retail for, but we are targeting a low $500 mark. This might seem expensive to people used to the competitors version, but, once released, you will not be dissapointed. The short-ram set-up, with an enclosed air-box, and grill scoop is designed to optimize airflow into the engine. We tried a cold-air version but found issues with getting airflow to the filter, and also found issues with rubbing and movement. When we compared this set-up to our two-tube cold air prototype version, be yielded more horsepower. So we opted for this set-up, even though it is more expensive to produce, but we wanted to design something different than the competitors. Keep in mind, we have proven in our dyno-testing that not all Cold-Air intakes makes more horsepower than a Short-Ram.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
Go to this link. We prototyped this vehicle. The finish of the tube is RAW, so imaging it polished or powdercoated. This will give you an idea of how the Coupe will look. A two-piece complete cold-air system, which can convert to a short-ram, if needed. It will be released the same time as the 350Z.

Looks like the gains are more or less the same as with the Injen and AEM units, which means that most people are going to have a hard time justifying twice as much money for something which is basically the same.
With all due respect (NOT trying to be an ***)...I know you guys but a LOT of work into this system, but do you really expect to profit when the competition is selling a similar unit for 1/2 the price?

I believe the price is not justified as well. I hope either a.) the mentioned price drops or b.) the gains are out of this world.

It sounds like you are paying double the price for double the HP as you would get in most other kits. Still is expensive though.

However, the Injen CAI has caused problems on the 5AT and 6MT so right now I'm not even considering a CAI until at least 6 months or so. It seems there are some issues with the MAF and I hope K&N has tested this product thoroughly to combat future problems.
I've been waiting for the typhoon intake since killah's car at sema, kinda crushed my dreams to hear the price. True you get what you pay for but.... I guess we will just have to wait and see. K&N has put a lot of time into this so it should be good, I hope
