Why not focus on the technical discussion instead of fueling the mindless banter?

Stillens is not a sealed air box - from what I can tell?

Wow, I get a nice PM from this guy as well. The guy is on the verge of harrassment. Where are the mods when you need them?

It's sealed from the engine heat and takes its air in front the actual front of the car behind the headlight. Most of the air comes in through the stock air hole in the radiator core support. You removed that airduct so it doesn't have a way to get air directed into the box now. Instead you have this GAP between that and the box and you also drilled holes in your box. This will be far worse than the stock box.

Fair enough. Do you have this mod?

Air can still get into the filter without the air tubes. In fact its a much larger hole to get there now.

Air volume is increased to the filters.

I have owned Stillen intakes which are proven to gain a little bit of hp. And that has alot more airflow than yours will ever supply. And it gains maybe 3 hp.

There is no facts. You have yet to prove it in dyno numbers or track times. You need to do a before dyno and after (oh wait, can't do that now, you already drilled it up).

More heat = less hp

You are not getting that much more air in those air boxes compared to stock. Your just letting in a lot more heat.

Perfect test:

Another stock 07 z
1.) equal fuel
2.) close to equal driver weight

Do muliple 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear rolls with no shifting (to eliminate driver mod).

If the stock one pulls on my car with mods then I'm totally wrong. Anyone have an 07 around S. Florida that would like to volunteer? We can drink beers and eat wings after.

Not a good comparison. Sorry what I said above is the way it needs to be done.

I disagree with this statement. Just because you have a larger surface area for air to enter the intake housing, it doesn't mean that you are actually getting a higher volumetric flow rate of air going into the engine. By creating holes all around the intake housing, you are not going to get a uniform flow of air through the filter. Instead your airflow is going to be extremely turbulent in the immediate area preceding, which IMO, will cause either a low air velocity and less overall flow rate.

Additionally, you reverted to pulling in hot engine bay air versus cool, pre-radiator air. The air you are now pulling will be less dense, which equates to less oxygen molecules, which ultimately means, you have less combustion occurring.

I disagree with the heat thing! Once the car is moving it's getting the same air. Somebody, am I wrong here??

If we all dynoed the cars with no air moving then I would agree that a sealed airbox pulling from the front of the car would be stronger. That's not the case when the car is outside and moving. Maybe my first gear is pulling a little more hot air from being at a stop. After 20 mph fresh air is coming in from front of car??

If drilling a bunch of holes in your airbox was a simple and "for cheap" way to make power, don't you think the Nissan,or other car manufacturer, engineers would have figured that one out a long time ago? The Nissan oem airbox actually is sort of a velocity stacked airbox, and most of the time makes more power than the cold air intakes. Good luck, let us know the results.

P.S> be careful not to suck up a bird, cat,or small child into your newly designed airbox.

Your making your intake get hot air now, more turbulent air, and you probably did not gain anything from this mod except noise. I can see the exhaust mod helping some though.

i understand what your saying but if this is true why does the popcharger show gains?

Why? Running at the track has a lot of driver mod variances - maybe 1/2 second.

Dynos. I have personally been on them multiple times (other cars). I seen cars that make less hp and tq pull away from cars with seemingly higher peak numbers. Explain that? Driver mod? Then how can we really tell?
