Cheap 2007 Z Modifications!!
For those who feel the need to spend $300-500 on intakes and $600-2000 on exhaust systems need not look!
It is obvious that Nissan has done their homework on the 2007 dual intake system. The aftermarket companies are making minimal if an any power so far. Wonder why it's taking them so long to release these new products....not much to gain from factory. I have done some home-brew modifications (sorry to all the people offended by my obtrusive mods) on the inake. "You butcher, you hacker, why mess up such a beautiful car??....."
Intake:
- remove factory air horns/silencers/intake tubes from air boxes
- drill holes on front of air box to allow more air.... not too many
$ = zero, natta, 0
For 2007 Nissan has drastically improved the exhaust system and Y pipe for more flow. This new system flows better than previous years due to the HR engine requirements. I propose make a little more engine sound and free up maybe a few ponies. Once again you big wallets spenders look elsewhere - NOT FOR YOU!
Exhaust:
- remove (muffler shop) pre-muffler/resonator before rear muffler
- replace (muffler shop) with straight pipe
$ = 50.00 dollars or less
The car is more responsive along with a stronger mid to top end pull via the butt dyno. The BEST - more intake and exhaust noise for cheap. Sounds like the car should have from the factory!!!!!!

Prove power gains on a dyno, or this thread is worthless. Butt dynos are 99.9% of the time in your head.
I'm sure the exhaust mod made a few horsepower, but not enough that some back to back runs stock wouldn't have shown (as in, it would just look like run variance).

Prove what there Chief? The car will go to the dyno and the track.
Very Simple, more air in and more air out equals more power!

Come on man, he was just posting how to get cheap power. The exhaust makes sense, but I'm having a hard time imagining what was done to the intake. What does "remove factory air horns/silencers/intake tubes from air boxes" mean, exactly?

OP, I'm guessing you're gonna return it to stock, dyno it, put your "modded" parts on, dyno again to show any gains, then repeat at the track, right? If not, like I said, this is worthless and won't prove ****. Don't get salty about it.

ANYWAYS, removing the tubes that lead to the intakes is (IMO) not a good idea. They're made for the stock intakes for a reason... they work. They direct air directly at the filters and have no opening inside the engine bay. Taking those off will **** up the airflow characteristics since it's made to flow with those air guides. Also, now you're ingesting hot engine air too.
The exhaust mods (like I said) will make a few, but it prolly won't be that much (for the reasons I said). Stepping up to a larger-diameter, resonator and cat free exhaust will make more gains (but it's nohing to run home and tell mom about since Z's don't make big gains with bolt-ons).
What I'm trying to say is save the free-mods for cars like DSM's that actually make big gains (since you can get 50% of DSM performance mods at Home Depot).
I'm sure the car does sound bad-*** though.
