Default Side exit exhaust

I've been thinking about running side exiting exhausts. do a 2.5" turbo down to the end of where the cat should be then run a rectangular tube of equal area to exit somewhere around the end of the door. the rect. tubing would be a 40mmx100mm (1.57"x3.53")to help with ground clearance. it would also be t-304 stainless and have a wall thickness of 2mm, (.078"). (round exhaust tubing is .065" i believe). should i go for it or not? Fabricationg all the metal is not a problem.

i suppose you're talking like side skirts or something? no, but the square design would help if i wanted to poke them through side skirts in the future.

I am just imagining how it'd look and thought it'd be weird on a stock Z. The tips would come out the side, and there'll be the 2 empty notches in the rear bumper where the tips would normally be.

I don't think there would be room for a muffler... you would have to do a TA style setup

this is a rough drawing of it. the 120mmx40mm will actually flow more than the 3"roundpipe. the only thing that would be a concern is where the exhaust crosses the fuel lines on the passenger side. thatwill be taken care of by sending them to jett hot and heatwrapping the lines in that area. they would run diagonal from where they come down from "cat"area to edge of the body infront of the rear tire. made from t-304 stainless also.

... I dunno man. again, I don't see where it would fit without sitting very low. the square tube section would have to be pretty long...

why not try it since you can fabricate it!

im gonna, the rect tube would only be 4.7 inches wide, and 1.5 inches high. another issue i just thought about would be hangers, although im sure it wouldnt be hard to fab something up for that too.

I say it is a good idea
I know of many SCCA RR Corvettes that have that done to them

And those Vettes are LOW.
If you do it, good luck and post up some pics of it...

Ground clearance will be interesting. Lets say that you currently have 5 inches clearance. Adding a 2-inch pipe will reduce ground clearance to 3 inches. Speed bumps will be next to impossible to navigate.

Isn't that stepdown going too be small, I mean that's alot of airflow from the downpipe.

it will only be 1.5 inches tall....i shouldnt have any issues with fuel lines beacause i was planning on jet hot coating them, then heat wrapping anything that may be an issue (fuel lines, tank).....there will be no neckdown, i just cant draw very well(that picture sucks! haha).
