Question test pipes...

im lookin at getting some test pipes and i just got a couple questions to those out there with them...
1.What are some good ones.
2.Will the pest pipes 'throw a code' and what can be done to prevent this
3.What was the pros/cons you observed

1. Most of them are good. I really don't want to list all the ones that are not prone to cracking. Ones i would stay away are Megan racing ones. A lot of people choose to go cheap and get teh Megan but you it will crack and you will have to buy new ones and teh install which isn't too fun.
2. Yes, they will throw a code. You can get spark plug defoulers which aren't expensive and put them on the test pipe, then put the o2 sensor through that.
3. Pros are that the gains are actually good. I was skeptical but i sure felt the gains.

Cons are that it smells bad. The smell is toxic if you smell it too much. Test pipes can make your car sound bad or really loud depending on what exhaust you are running. They rasp but the resonated suppose to take some of the raspiness away. I'm running non resonated test pipes on my stock exhaust and it sounds real good.

Well, I have read and read about test pipes and HFC's and to me, is it that much MORE gain going TP over HFC in comparison to going HFC and not throwing code or getting the smell and such?

Get resonated ones to avoid rasp. you will get it regardless tho. they will throw codes unless you get spark plug nonfoulers ($4-5 at pep boys for a set of 2, and you need 2 per plug) Either way when you try to pass smog you will have to put your stock cats back on there.

Sound is amazing if you like it loud and to **** people off! They smell at the beginning but then you get used to them. When I first got them the smell was horrible and it droned so loud I got a headache when driving on the freeway next to the center divider. But then I got used to them.

Get the right tone and you'll sound like a nice ferrari

actually, the only states i know that does smog in the term you area talking about is in cali and nevada. Here in nc, as long as you don't have a check engine light, you will pass. They dont' do visual inspection.

Nevada does OBDII testing on newer vehicles. They won't do the sniff test unless they encounter problems.

I put resonated test pipes on about 3 weeks ago. They have yet to throw a code and they sound awesome on my stillen td exhaust. The only time I get rasp with them is if I get on it before its good and warmed up(which I rarely do) .I get compliments all the time on how they sound and I have even been told that it sounds like a ferarri . They do smell a bit but the power and sound boost makes it worth it imo.

Helix SS Test Pipes with non-foulers. 3,768 miles and no problems. Passed Maryland emissions test.

i run HFC's and loved the sound improvement they provided. No rasp at all, no smell, no complaints. I haven't dyno'd my car before and after, but knowledgable people claim HFC's dont produce half the hp as test pipes. I would consider your emission laws and budget and go from there. I did notice a little more mid range pep after installing them, but most of all it made my exhaust sound tone much deeper and aggressive.

-Kinetix Resonated TP's
-I added Nismo Headeres and it sounds even better, got rid of the drone at 2k-3k rpm.
-did not have to use non-foulers on my '03, no CEL

here's a sample vid of my Z. (also has Nismo exhaust.)
