Default Invidia G200 - Why two versions? How loud?

I'm considering purchased a used G200 exhaust and have noticed that there exist two versions of this thing.

One has straight pipes going all the way to the main muffler:

And the other has two additional resonators:

The one I am looking at does not have the resonators. How loud is it compared to, say the Nismo? Which of the two G200s came first, which is better?

thanks

i had the one without the resonators for awhile. If you like the way E46 M3's sound, you'll like this exhaust. It's a little loud on the inside of the car, but not loud at all on the outside. You can definately notice the different sound, but not loud by any means.

I believe the version with the two resonators was an early model, and I dont think it ever got produced in any number. Mine has the straight piping, as do all the ones I've seen in person and for sale. They should just quit using that stock photo of the one with the resonators.

The G200 is a fairly quiet exhaust overall. Its almost silent at idle and quiet under light cruise, but gets pretty loud when you hammer on it. The tone under load is nice and throaty. Inside, you will notice some drone, but its not excessive. Overall I like the sound a lot.

Thanks a lot for the info!

May I ask, did you notice any gains at all? I read something about a loss of low-end torque, and I have not been able to find a dyno graph.

Thanks again.

I have the unresonated G200. With the G200 by itself its pretty quiet until you are on it. With my mods it howls like an exotic and it is loud all of the time (unlike the nismo). I posted vids a while back.

All of the gains are topend. There is a noticable loss in torque though.

Couldn't feel much difference either way, personally.

The above answer is correct. This exhaust is made for both the "Z" and the "G". The early "Z" exhaust had the resonators, and folks complained about the quietness, so they removed them. The model for the "G" came later, and never had them. I like the exhaust very much, I've had it for a couple of years now. However, I found it worked better with an "H" pipe. Sounded better, and idled better.

BTW, the bellow at WOT, is wonderful.

did you get a shop to custom weld the "H" part in?

Default quiet

You guys weren't kidding about this being a quiet exhaust!

I just finished the install and went for my first test drive. I do like the sound but it's not really what I was expecting.

And it's already broken in, because it was a used system..

thanks.
